my thoughts on Van Halen situation....

First of all.....I think we should all appreciate what Van Halen has done for rock n' roll. I'm not saying they were the best band ever...but they gave rock a much needed boost in the eighties/nineties. They opened the door for many other hungry bands.....and Eddie was definitely one of the greatest influencial guitarists of this generation. I have him up on a pedestal along with Jimi Hendrix & Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Van Hagar era was ok....had a few decent cd's, but got stale towards the end. Maybe lost a few fans with the hiring of Sammy, but gained a few as well.

I don't even want to talk about the Gary Cherone / VH III era. DEFINITELY lost fans here.

This newest soap opera/rumor mill with David Lee Roth is pretty much doing it for most other fans (other than the die-hards). I'm sure there is alot that goes on behind the scenes that most of don't know about.....but I'm sure with the EGOS involved here things aren't running very smoothly. If DLR has been booted from the band again, it wouldn't surprise anyone.

Its real sad to see such a great band go downhill like this. But like I said earlier, we should still appreciate Van Halen for what they did....they've earned their place in rock n' roll history.

Without Van Halen, none of you would be here kneeling before the altar of hairspray and spandex.

Oh, and BTW...... Fuck eMpTyV too. Van Halen MADE that damn network. For them to disrespect VH while giving dozens of awards to boybands and rappers without a shred of musical talent proves what a joke that channel has become.

RE: my thoughts on Van Halen situation....

Its funny you should post this, only last night was I enjoying Live: Right Here Right Now. I originally didn't like the vid for its chops and changes between two nights of filming but the performance is fantastic regardless, they were fantastic showmen, and I appreciate it more and more every time I play it. So I agree, Van Halen has done its bit for rock and roll, sure, you can't take that away from them. I've said my piece re not caring about the situation anymore so I won't do that again.

Are you a Roth era fan? Because I thought Van Hagar got better as the albums went on. You stated they got stale, I thought they got better. Alex moved away from those shite sounding electric drums, Eddie got more crunch in his riffs and they incorporated more piano and accoustics. I rate it highly, I was hanging out for a sequel to Balance because that album blew my head right off! I had to sit down and recouperate after tracks 1, 2 and 3 before I could go on with the rest of the album.

Anyway, its all bollocks and I'm off to get pissed caus' its Friday. Have a good weekend all.

Cheers and beers

Benno

What's going on now is about as sad as it gets. They should rename themselves Van Spinal Tap and have Rob Reiner move in with a camera team - there's your sequel!

RE: my thoughts on Van Halen situation....

True. But one big question is 'If Dave did get fired/quit again, then should they find a new singer?'

Personally, I dont care anymore. When the rumors started before Cherone left the band I was a bit excited about Dave, but not anymore. The whole thing has turned into an ugly joke. Seems like Eddie and the boys might have burned bridges with Dave and Sammy, so the the only thing to do would be get a NEW Singer or quit. Getting a new singer would be horrible since the outcome they had with Cherone. (One album and he is gone)

While, I agree that they had a great place in the History of rock, I will say that I truly feel that is the only place for them now. With all the BS going along with Van Halen since the firing of Hagar, the best thing would be to retire the band name and try going it solo for each of the remaining members.
