Alien - a question

For want of something better to do the other night I dug out a schlocky video - "The Blob" from 1988. When the end credits came up I was reminded of something I´d wondered about for ages but never knew where to ask for help...´till now!
The song over the end credits is "Brave New World" by Alien. I really like it, it´s very late 80s melodic rock but so what. I can remember looking out for stuff from the band with that particular song on, but to no avail. Can anyone help, and can anyone say if their other material is as good as BNW?

The Jim solo CD is my favorite AOR CD...PERIOD! Yes it has covers but that is what he was going for. "All I want is You" is the best track. I found copies of it at Hang Loose records listed on this site on the opening page. If you buy it please say I sent you....Eric from Staten Island, NY

Anyone who likes him should check out this solo album, titled "JIM"

I hear this is becoming increasingly difficult to find? Although the album has 4-5 cover songs on it, it's still quite good!!

Cheers

Vince

Gav wrote:
-------------------------------
The European version of the album came out in 1988 and featured a dude called Jim Jidhead on vocals. The U.S. version surfaced in 1989 and was kind of a compilation of the Euro release with Jim singing and new material with Pete Sandberg singing. Both versions feature 'Brave New Love', 'Go Easy' and 'Tears Don't Put Out The Fire' (which are the best tunes) but the original features a song called 'Dying By The Golden Rule' which is an absolute shit-kicker of a tune and makes the Euro version the one to track down. I think it is quite rare nowadays but try your hardest to find it because it is a great album.

With regard to their later releases, check out 'Shiftin' Gear' particularly the track 'Desperate Dreams' but don't bother with anything after that because they ran out of ideas!

Cheers,

Gav

Definately worth tracking down though.

Very good (not overly well produced) melodic rock with a great vocalist and a guitarist who sounds like a more melodic version of Malmsteen! And,yes..."Tears Don't Put Out the Fire" is a classic, that was the only song of theirs I'd heard before I tracked it down. By the way the vocals on this debut CD are not by Pete Sandberg, this guy is better,a bit more ballsy! Cheers. Brent.

When I first watched "The Blob" movie on TV I noticed that song during the ending sequence and I couldn't realize who was the artist!! After a lot of years I've found out that was ALIEN!!! The song's name is "Brave New Love" (not "World") and it's included in Alien's debut of 1989... That record is a masterpiece, you cannot but love songs like "Tears don't put out the fire" or "Go easy"... so go hunting it!!!!
