FAVOURITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!

Just for fun's sake and as an indication of the listening tastes of all you brothers of melodic rock out there!
1.NIGHT RANGER -phenomenal band, vocalist, and guitarists - Watson and Gillis!
2.HEARTLAND - i reckon Chris Ousey as a vocalist rocks major league and Steve Morris is a way cool guitarist. Their best is yet to come - new rocking album imminent. Look out for side project "The Distance" - fantastic.
3.DEEP PURPLE - Love Blackmore and all the lineup changes assure real diversity. They've hardly done a bad album in 3 decades!
4.HELLOWEEN - all the prog/power clones(and their are many these days) took all their references from Helloween and a certain Yngwie Malmsteen!
5.BOSTON - my favourite of the Journey/Foreigner clique of AOR bands not least because they rock the heaviest. I just wish they were more prolific!
6.KANSAS - talk about experimental and pompous! But some of those melodies are killer! I hear the new album's a cracker.
7.WARRANT - don't laugh. They've done some cracking stuff. I hope their next album's as ballsy as Dog Eat Dog and Jani's a really good songwriter.
8.THIN LIZZY - Gorham and Robertson - twin guitar bliss! But then come to think of it John Sykes wasn't half bad and Snowy White ditto! Phil Lynott - a god!
9. TEN - I don't care if people say they are imitators -because they are not! Their derivative of a few bands (ie Whitesnake) etc. but so is everyone. What they do, they do exceedingly well - My dream package tour - Ten, Heartland and Danger Danger - pure bliss!
10. VAN HALEN - except for Cherone! He sucked - Sammy and DLR ruled!
Honourable mentions and growers - Harem Scarem, Danger Danger, Autograph, Ozzy Osbourne, Emerald Rain, Orion the Hunter, Diving for Pearls.
So get craking! What do you guys think!
Cheers! KAOS FAN!

RE: FAVOURITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!

1. Whitesnake - Probably one of the most consisting bands of all time. Released up to the dreadful "Slip Of The Tongue" not even one mediocre album. Had with DC the best Rock vocalist of all time. And released with "Slide It In" one of the classiest and best produced albums ever.

2. Van Hagar - Not that I didn't like the Roth years, but Sammy provided a new element and more diverse style to their songwriting.

3. Def Leppard - Reinvented themselves on every record until "Adrenalize".

4. Y & T - Probably the most underrated band ever. Had the perfect combination of power and melody. It's a shame that Dave Meniketti never really got the (commercial) success he and his boys deserved. His guitar play is - besides to the mighty Gary Moore - second to none in terms of power and feel.

5. Blackfoot - another shamlessly underrated band. I don't think I've ever seen a better and tighter live band. "Marauder" and "Tomcattin" are total church.

6. Aerosmith - Best American R'n'Roll band ever. But they need to get off the Diane Warren train and start to rock out again!

7. Deep Purple - Legends. "In Rock" is the mother of all Hardrock albums. Although I favor the Coverdale/Hughes years (suprise, surprise...;-)).

8. Black Sabbath. Okay, the Ozzy and Dio stuff is legendary. But "Headless Cross" and "TYR" are my two faves.

9. Dokken - "Under Lock And Key" is simply THE Melodic Hardrock album of all time. A lot more talented than the rest of the LA hair bands.

10. Thin Lizzy - Didn't really get into them all that much until about five years ago. Every album rules - even if it took me a long time to realize that. I'm majorly pissed that their gig in my town got cancelled AGAIN!

RE: FAVOURITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!

1. Yngwie J. Malmsteen´s Rising Force. IMHO the most consistently good melodic metal act from the mid-80´s to now. Incredible songs and totally redefined lead guitar.
2. Rainbow. Classic hard rock. Not a single bad album. Reinvented their sound in the early 80´s but still maintained an exceptionally high quality throughout. And Blackmore ruled the roost of guitar players for many, many years...
3. Dio. Lost it a bit in recent times but, again - generally consistent quality, fantastic, bombastic melodic metal songs delivered by a vocalist who is second to none. Never seen a duff gig. Never heard a duff note.
4. Black Sabbath. The pioneers. My preference is for the Tony Martin and Dio ereas, but the Reunion albummade me reevaluate their older material significantly.
5. Ten. Yeah, why not?! They´ve turned out a row of consistently good albums and even Spellbound has its moments. I look forward to hearing Babylon but if the reports and reviews are true, then I´m in for a treat! They hold up their influences with pride and have learned their lessons well.
6. UFO. For me they defined hard rock in the the early 80´s. A better comnbination of riffs embellished with subtle keyboard melodies one is hard pressed to find. A totally unique singer in Phil Mogg and too many pure classic songs to mention.
7. Dokken. I always regarded them as a sort of American UFO! Great songs and excellent guitar. Having said that Shadowlife was a total disaster and I rapidly lost interest after that...
8. Impelliteri. Melodic power metal with hyper speed guitar to the max.
RE: FAVOURITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!

I have to go with mainly 80's bands, mainly due to my dislike of the 'Led Zepplin' sound. Here goes...

1. Guns and Roses-- I think the Use your Illusion albums are classic, and I never tire of hearing every song.

2. Bon Jovi-- Ever since I first heard 'Living on a prayer' I have loved the guys from New Jersey. Whether it be from the band or a solo album, they constantly put out songs that I will sing months and years later,

3. Tesla-- A band I have a hard time describing. In a way every song they have done could have been on any of their albums, All of them still make me feel good when I hear them.

4. Def Leppard-- The first rock song I ever heard was 'Pour some Sugar on me' that was all it took.

5. Skid Row-- How I wish that this band still made music. Even the Subhuman race CD was awesome once you got past it's power.

Others: Poison, Warrant, Great White, Thunder, Quireboys, Tyketto..etc you get the picture.

Demons Down is amazing.
Van Halen-The Hagar era was my favorite, DLR was great as well.
Tesla-One of the more intelligent-sounding 80s rock bands.
Thunder-I always thought it was a shame that they never got the recognition they
deserved. One of the best things to come out of the UK.
Y&T-Although most of the world didn't get them, I loved anything they did. Ten is a
nearly perfect rock album.

There was something really cool about that guy.

BON JOVI-Reminds me about my high school days

VAN HALEN-The name says it all!

JOURNEY-Cruising with my friends and their older brothers, and listening to them in the car radio on humid summer nights (oh yeah!)

DANGER DANGER-A fucking great rock band.

IRON MAIDEN-If their name was in dictionary, it would have underneath "pure original heavy metal". Also one of the best twin guitar bands ever.

SURVIVOR-Inspirational! I don't care how corny it sounds, but when I was a kid "Eye of the Tiger" got me really pumped. Then of course you have songs like "The Search is Over" etc.

OZZY-One of the pioneers of heavy metal. Absolutely love the Zakk Wylde era albums.

WHITE LION-I can't help but love Vito's guitar work.(Love that song "Hungry" from the Pride album)

NIGHT RANGER- Another Inspirational band that has some of the best songwriters in the business.

RE: FAVOURITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!

You're only giving me TEN?! Well, then let me narrow it down to (in alphabetical order):

AC/DC - no band has ever had a run like Angus and Co. did from 'Dirt Deeds' thru 'For Those About To Rock'. That's - what? - 7 or 8 albums with not one mediocre song in sight. Bon Scott was the epitome of a rock'n'roll singer and probably the greatest story teller in modern rock.

BLACK SABBATH - I appreciate the Ozzy period because the original Sabbath were the inventors, but I'm more partial to the Dio years. 'Heaven & Hell' and 'Mob Rules' is the most awesome double punch in the history of heavy metal. Some of the stuff with Tony Martin is excellent as well, particularly 'Eternal Idol'. Ozzy solo has also had some incredible moments, most of all the 2 albums with Randy Rhoads.

DEEP PURPLE - Other than Sabbath and Zep, these guys defined hard rock/metal in the 70's. 'In Rock' thru 'Come Taste The Band' was an amazing run. Also, let me throw RAINBOW in here, too - 'Rising' and 'Long Live Rock'n'Roll' are as good as anything Blackmore ever did with Purple.

IRON MAIDEN - sadly only a shell of their former glorious selves these days - with or without Bruce and Adrian - but 'Iron Maiden' thru 'Seventh Son' was classic after classic (especially the first 4). Other than Sabbath, they've probably been more influential than just about any other metal band. Helloween and the hordes of clone bands wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Maiden (...which would actually be a good think come to think of it...;-((( ).

JUDAS PRIEST - 'Sad Wings Of Destiny', ''Sin After Sin', 'Stained Class', 'Hellbent For Leather', 'Unleashed In The East', 'British Steel', "Point Of Entry' (well, part of it anyway...), 'Screaming For Vengeance', 'Defenders Of The Faith' (not counting a couple of stinkers...) and 'Painkiller'. That's all the argument you need right there. JP = heavy metal. Rob Halford = Metal God!

LED ZEPPELIN - yep, they're on the damn radio waaaay too much, but when all is said and done, they're still one of the greatest bands ever. Jimmy Page, limited as he is as a guitar player technically speaking, is the biggest visionary in hard rock the world has ever seen - and has come up with more classic riffs than any human other than maybe Iommi.

QUEEN - it still kills me how incredibly diverse Queen was. Didn't care for a lot of the later albums, safe a few specific songs, but the 70's stuff was plain amazing. Freddie was a god and Brian May's guitar tone and phrasing was out of this world. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' has got to be one of the greatest songs ever written.

THIN LIZZY - the greatest 2-guitar band ever! Totally underrated but are finally starting to get their due. Most Lizzy heads probably prefer the Gorham/Robertson era, which was great, but I'm really partial to the last 4 releases, 'Black Rose', 'Chinatown', 'Renegade', and 'Thunder & Lighting'. 'Live & Dangerous' has got to be up there in the top 5 as far as live albums go.

VAN HALEN (w/ DLR) - first 4 albums are unbeatable. VHI is one of the top 10 greatest rock records of all time! Too bad they have now decided to make a mockery of their awesome legacy by doing this reunion thing. God, somebody, ANYBODY - please stop this before it's too late and the world is forced to witness another geezer rock debacle.

Honorable mention: Rush, UFO, Metallica (pre-'Load').

P.S.: If it looks like I only like bands that had their peaks in the 70's and 80's - I'm not. It's just that these bands, all in their own way, really defined to an overwhelming degree what's going on today in terms of hard rock/metal. The level of quality these bands put out is still the yardstick by which any band out there is measured - and most fall short by a mile.

Cheers! KAOS FAN!
