Styx - why their "people" have sided wit

Just a guess, but maybe because they're going out on the road making money using the name Styx? It will surely pull in more people than the name of Dennis DeYoung(solo) or Tommy Shaw(solo) for that matter. I still have yet to hear what anyone says about the band touring and not telling the general public in the media i.e. radio, interviews.

When Journey played in Phoenix, there was a big local push to get people out to the show as the band went above and beyond the call to let people know that Steve Perry would not be with them. Granted, the attendance was only about 6500-7000 in a 19,000 seat arena. And that was with ticket prices at $10 each! But I'm sure the members of Journey slept well knowing they did their best to inform their fans(die-hard AND casual) of what to expect at the show. And I commend them for such an effort. I know people who were thinking of going but they had assumed that Steve Perry was going to be there until I informed them otherwise. All I'm saying to the current lineup of Styx is "let the general public know who is in the touring lineup so as to know what to expect". Not much to ask is it?

What if a friend of yours had purchased a '97 model car a few years back that you really liked, but you wanted to buy the 2000 model. When you went to buy the car, you'd want to know all the features on the car to see if anything had been changed/removed from the '97 model as you REALLY like this car. And it is YOUR money, so you want to know what you're getting. But the dealer just says "it's the new 2000 model". No further details, so you're led to believe it something that it may not be. It may be better(in someone else's opinion), it may not.

Albeit the members of Styx have had this falling out, maybe they'll be able to patch things up, maybe not. Another musical drama yet waiting to unfold. At the very least, they've given us quite an impressive musical catalogue to enjoy for years to come. Hopefully at some point, they'll come to their senses and put this past them and make the studio record that "Brave New World" should have been.
Not trying to knock the album, but when I hear a Styx album, I expect a lot more.

I seriously doubt that Chuck would join the guys on the road even though they were "screwing" Dennis because of money. Heck, I don't even know if Chuck gets paid to perform!

There is much more going on behind the scenes than we know. Face it, think about how Dennis has trashed the album and the current line-up in the public eye, and ask yourself what he says off the record. It is NOT a pretty picture.

Vicki

RE: Styx - why their "people" have sided

I still have yet to hear what anyone says about the band touring and not telling the general public in the media i.e. radio, interviews.
------------------------------

That would be because they DO tell the general public! I have heard the interviews, and the fact that Dennis is not touring with the band DOES come up. The fact that Dennis is not touring with the band has been brought up in every print interview I have seen (and I've seen a lot) as well.

I was on the phone trying to buy tickets to one of the shows and almost couldn't get the preferred seating because it took so long for the woman to tell me that Dennis DeYoung was not touring with the band. I have been told by others that they have had the same experience. I have seen billboards with photos of the currrent line-up.

So, if they are mentioning the fact that Dennis is not with them in interviews, and having the ticket reps tell ticket buyers that Dennis DeYoung will not be performing at the show, and providing the promoters with photos of the current line-up as well as the names of those in the current line-up, and they advertise who is touring this year on their website, I would say that they are doing their job as far as letting people know. The band is not personally responsible for every flier. If there are some unscrupulous promoters out there trying to make it look like Dennis is still with the band, that is not the band's fault. They are doing what they can to let people know.

Vicki

I didn't miss Dennis. Lawrence Gowan kicked ass and no one else either seemed to notice or care. I was impressed because I didn't think anyone could be up to the task.........I was wrong. Don't miss them....especially with Glen Burtnik.

It was not a slam on Journey, it was stating a fact. Regardless of who was backing the tour(the local promoter here pulled out all the stops i.e.full page adds in the entertainment paper, radio interviews with band members, constant pluggung of the show. Say what you will, but the majority of the public seems to know Perry isn't in the band anymore.

My point was that Styx doesn't seems to care enough to do the same thing that Journey did. If I wasn't on the internet, I would have no idea that Dennis wasn't with the band. I await the day that Styx will come and let the fans(mainly casual fans)know who is in the band and what to expect from the show. I'm sure it's probably a great show, but I believe the fans need to know some basics. It's only fair.

Of course, tickets have been on sale for some time now, so those who are expecting Dennis with the band are going to be disappointed at the fact that they had no prior knowledge of his "departure". I don't think too many people were suprised when Perry wasn't at the show. I did go by the way, and Augeri pulled it off magnificently. I thought it was awful big of him to say to the audience, "thank you for letting me sing for you". Hats off to Augeri.

That tour was pretty much a test to see if....1) people were still interested in Journey live...and--mainly-- 2) to see if the fans would accept Augeri and Castronovo. Without the backing of a record label, there was little promotion for that tour, which is why ticket sales were really low. On the other hand though, it suceeded on that level as they got a contract near the end of the tour and a big tour last summer with Foreigner......and as anybody who was there can verify, from the shows I saw, people came for Journey and Foreigner never got half the crowd reaction that Journey did.

Needless to say though, I have all the respect in the world for Augeri for pulling off the impossible....replacing one of the most distinctive, and IMO, the best rock vocalist ever. And more, he managed to pull it off to the point that the crowd could have cared less whether Perry was there or not as the energy in those crowds was more than enough to make you realize that there was more to Journey than just Steve Perry and a backup band.

waiting for the new cd in September,
Kevin
