One more Ten thing to ponder.....

Am I the only one who thinks Gary Hughes sounds a little like Neil Diamond sometimes? :)

Long live melodic rock. New and old.

RE: Heartland rules Steve...

Steve, I like a lot of progressive metal as you appear to do but let's be honest - they are all starting to replicate each other. Sonata Arctica for example are great musicians but there are so many Helloweenisms it's hilarious and they've obviously been listening to Rhapsody more than a bit. And then you have a go at Heartland after hearing one single. Very unfair as they are one aor/melodic rock band that have a really distinct sound which has much to do with Chris Ousey's excellent and very distinct voice.
Personally I'm tiring a bit of the progressive metal scene - Rhapsody's, Sonata Arctica's, Angra's etc. If I want to hear this style of music at it's best I'll go back to the bands they've "copied" - Malmsteen and Helloween etc. And these new progressive metal bands have to do something about their lyrics - some of them are downright infantile... Cheers. KAOS FAN...

RE: Heartland sux if they sell less than Ten ...

I think we should all get over this argument about Band X is better than Band Y if they sell XX times more albums. If that´s true then leave MHR out for the vultures to chew on while hip-hop reigns supreme. Even in MHR most of my fave acts sell less than the biggies - Journey, Aerosmith, Jovi, Leppard... their sales figures surely crush eg. Yngwie, Ten, Impelliteri, Sonata Arctica, but I´ll take the latter set over the former any day. Better musicians, better songs IMO and remember there´s no accounting for personal taste, so forget the hate mail OK!
´For the record: I got a Heartland CD single somewhere and thought it was the most insipid, wishy-washy, contrived load of tosh I´d heard in ages. To be honest, listening to the majority of acts featured on the Classic Rock freebie CD (covers a lot of new acts), in terms of songs and sheer class, Ten really are streets ahread of most of the competition. It has nothing to do with sales.
Finally - back to topic - to totally destroy my credibility, Popefreak has a bit of a point you know. Some of Gazzas phrasing occaisionally doesn´t sound a zillion miles away from ND´s.
OK OK I´ll syringe the ears tomorrow. But that´s what I think now!

Heartland sux if they sell less than Ten ...

Ten sells twice the product of <enter your favorite indie MHR band here> and you do not like Ten twice as much, so ...

I think that is the general sentiment.

People vote with their wallets. If you don't agree with the vote, that is just tough sh*t and get over it already.

barking on,
BD

BTW, I do not think that Ten is the best of the MHR indies, but they are certainly one of the best. Their popularity does not surprise me and I do not begrudge them the success that they have worked hard to achieve. But I do sometimes wonder why more people do not agree with me ;)

GARY HUGHES / NEIL DIAMOND?

Well, this may surprise everyone that I`m not coming here to defend Gary, but it`s been a bit of a running joke in the studio over the last couple of years how close Gary sometimes sounds to Mr. Diamond.
You should have heard his original guide vocals on "Fear The Force" ( or "Two by Four" as it was known at the time. LOL ). The first verse was SO Neil Diamond.
Also, when Gary did the guide vocals for "The Light" from BOB CATLEY`s "Legends" album I picked out that the breakdown section sounded like a bizzare combination of Black Sabbath`s "Heaven And Hell" crossed with Good old Neil`s "Love On The Rocks".

I can`t see Gary donning the big black wig and going on Stars In Their Eyes just yet though, but seeing as two NOW AND THEN vocalists have already been on there ( the singers from THE QUEST and THE SHOCK!!! ) and with Vinny`s infamous Lottery show appearance the night before THE GODS, you really never know......tonight Matthew, I`m going to be Neil Diamond. Cool.

Bye for now,
Mark

P.S. Gary and Neil have never been seen in the same room together either, so maybe there is more to this than meets the eye?
