Hello Styx Fans.

Welcome aboard Styx fans. I know Styx only through A&M edited compilation around 1986 or 87, but I like their songs such as Come Sail Away, Babe, Renegades, Fooling Yourself, Don't Let It End, and Mr. Robot(I heard this refers to Ultraman, Japanese TV hero who fights against dinosaur-like monsters).

I just ask one question. If your friend asked you to recommend one Styx album other than compilation, what will that be?

Million thanks

Paradise Theater a good place to start

Paradise Theatre is my fave Styx album. And while it's not everybody's favorite album (though is the favorite of many) I think pretty universally it's considered one of their best albums, whereas for their other albums opinions are more varied.

Bladesian

Styx Recommendations

No can do :(

IIn high school, I wore out a _Pieces of Eight_ LP, so that is probably the one I listened most to. The next one in line would be _Paradise Theater_, which songwise may be their best effort. I would say if you like Styx, you can not go wrong by getting _Grand Illusion_(77), _Pieces of Eight_(78), _Cornerstone_(79), and _Paradise Theater_(81).

BTW, I just knew Vicki was a Renegade ;)

BD

That's HARD!!

OK, I'm a BIG Pieces of Eight fan (GOTTA HAVE 'Renegade'), so I guess this would be the one. I'm a rocker chick, so give me 'Queen of Spades' and 'Renegade' and OOOH... I'm happy!!

Close second would be Grand Illusion. I just adore 'Foolin' Yourself', and 'Man in the Wilderness' has very special meaning for me.

Vicki

RE: Hello Styx Fans.

Hello Susumu!

Just one Styx album? That's a tough one.

There are a few "close seconds", but for my money the best album, period, is Cornerstone. There are many reasons why two of the songs on Cornerstone are Styx's most commercially successful songs (Babe, in the US, Boat on the River, in Europe).

Cornerstone, in my humble opinion, has no weak tracks. It showcases Styx as a versatile band at one time leaning toward electronica ands at other times going accoustical (imagine the autoharp alongside the accordion!)

Then add layered harmonies, thoughtful lyrics, and tight production. Cornerstone is Styx at its best. No doubt.

Thanks for asking,

Stan

(that was fun)
