top 5 cd's of 2000....

In your opinion, what are the 5 best melodic rock releases of this year? I want to make a few purchases soon, and could use some advice.

Is the new DangerDanger worth buying?

III is a general progression from the "On the Verge" cd, though maybe a little more AOR than they have been before. They haven't changed too much from Lint....only gotten better. They really started to define their style on OTV. It's not Journey-ish the way The Storm/2 Fires/Hugo are though, IMO, but once you "get" their sound, it's a really good cd.
As far as the Perry vs. Augeri stage presence issue is concerned, I think Perry is more comfortable (no doubt due to years of touring), but Augeri is getting confidence. He's gotten much better each time I have seen him. His stage presence was best on the new songs from last tour--obviously because he didn't have to compare with Perry on those--so he should be right at home this time out now that he actually has a cd to call his own.

Kevin

Yeah!!!

But I can't agree about Mars Electric...there was so much hype about this album but it's no wonder the band aren't breaking any new ground...if you want to bring "back" melodic hard rock (which I hope never happens as the major labels ruin any music they get their hands on), you must have some "personality" to the band/music....someone who can command a big following

For example people like Steve Perry and Rick Springfield who were not only great musicians but also very charismatic and were able to draw a large audience based on their "personality"

Until that happens...I am very content listening to the many quality AOR releases from the independent European labels...Portrait has yet to release anything of any merit

Cheers

Vince

sfk kurt wrote:
-------------------------------
Personally I dont think there's been that many good AOR releases (though a ton of GREAT power pop). They sound better!!

Name one Journey song that even comes close to "In your head"???

No Journey song rocks that hard...that song is about as perfect melodic hard rock as you can get

And as for the production, I don't know what kind of stereo system you have but it sounds quite good to me!

Whilst other bands are out there copying, House of SHakira are one of the most original in the scene. Kudos to Mats and Anders!!

Cheers

Vince

Carl wrote:
-------------------------------
House Of Shakira "Out Journey's Journey" ?
What a load of old twaddle. I like this band and have their cd's but I am sorry, in no
way whatsoever do this band have any of the quality of Journey.
And as for the production on the new HOS cd. What were the band thinking of when this was being recorded?. The sound is so tinny I thought there was a fault on my system. Sounds as though they did the whole thing with ear muffs on.

If you ever happen to listen to BP, you'll find out why 'classic Cooper with a modern edge' is not simply regurgitated 70's Cooper. And even if it were - these are Alice's best songs since 'Raise Your Fist & Yell', in fact they are probably better for the most part.
