Journey: Arrival hits Napster

If you want to hear the songs for yourself, you can find some of them on Napster now. While I am disappointed for the band's sake, I can only attest to how much I LOVE this new music. I've heard bits and pieces of about 8 or 9 of the songs, and I'm VERY happy with how JOURNEY it sounds.

I've been a fan for 20+ years, and there is stuff I'm hearing that is not only reminiscent of their glory albums like Escape and Frontiers, but there is also a song called "Livin' to do" that most closely resembles work they did on Dream after Dream, or maybe Infinity's Winds of March.

I am saying this, though... If you download the music and like it, then buy the record. If you're a fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the new tunes.

RE: Favorite Journey song?

I was at my seventh grade dance, in the gymnasium. The lights were low and there was a disco ball hanging in the middle of the dance floor/basketball court. In typical seventh grade fashion, I was "with the guys", leaning against the farthest wall from the DJ table. Thats when I heard it, the strange time signature on the drums, the easy-as-pie chords, the throbbing keys, and the repeating bassline. "That guy sings like an angel," I thought to myself. I was about to begin a LONG love affair with a band that had just mesmerized my attention. I just stood there and listened to the slow crescendo, the harmonies, the silk and steel sound of the vocals clashing with those guitar notes, and the long wailing fadeout.

That was the first time I ever heard Don't Stop Believin'. The song remains my favorite not because it is the greatest song ever written, but because it was the first song that made me realize what music could do to me on an emotional level. How it could move me, touch me, and "speak" to me. That was the first time I FELT the music instead of just "hearing" it.

I know, pretty sappy, but it's the truth. That is the exact moment I fell in love with music. Not just Journey, but any kind of music that would move me in some way. Thanks for lettin' me share a fond memory.

Not sure what it is about that song...but It's one of the neater songs.

Speaking of Arrival....

Is it me or did the Livin to Do sound like something off Departure? Seems like there was a couple tracks that have their influences from Escape and a couple that seem like it has Departure written all over them

Overall, I have a good feeling about this CD. I'm surprised Lifetime of Dreams isn't going to be the one they picked for Radio rather than all the way. Then again what do I know

However, as tough as it is, I have narrowed it down to two:

Feeling That Way / Anytime - you gotta love the vocal exchange between Perry and Gregg Rollie

Stone in Love - Schon lets loose from beginning to end of this track

As much as I look forward to this new "Arrival" and as much as I like the new Steve, I will never truly be happy unless / until I get a chance to see Perry, Schon, Cain, Smith, Vallory and Rollie together one time on stage.
