New EVERCLEAR album.

Just recently I seem to have got hold of a load of great albums. NEVE, NINE DAYS, KING X and now EVERCLEAR. Thing is, there's not a MHR one among 'em! But I would recommend getting a listen to the new EVERCLEAR album 'Songs From An American Movie'.
It's melodic and in places it rocks but it's not melodic rock if you know what I mean? It does, however stand a chance of getting on the radio which TWO FIRES (which I love) doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of doing!

With Marvellous 3 round the corner things are shaping up pretty well for this year I reckon. But not if you're expecting an 80's revival!

Time to take off the blinkers and wise up perhaps?

It's good to see that people who regularly contribute to this board aren't JUST hanging on to the past. And as far as I'm concerned the EVERCLEAR album sounds like it's choc full of hit singles to me. Be warned! Expect to hear it on your radio soon, like it or not!!

I believe they are putting out another album in a couple of months which displays their heavier/grungier side. Just going to check it out on their site.

Later...

For the uninformed Art Alexakis, the vocalist and main songwriter is a massive Cheap Trick fan and their first few albums had that real fun power-pop feel. Now they sound like any one of a number of also-ran alternative bands and whatever energy they had has dissipated. Sounds like another SELL OUT band to me! Cheers.KAOS FAN!

If you claim they
are average musicians (Iv'e never seen them in concert) Alex (the main writer)
surely is chock full of ideas more than your average alt band. The CD is
a very varied affair and the songs are of quality. Other people should not
shy away from this CD.

Although it is not "Melodic Rock" they take their music to a whole new
level. Just felt I had to defend a quality release.

Seen them in concert; very ordinary musicians. As for their new album, probably the worst thing they've ever done. Monotonous vocals; melodies way back in the mix; limited guitar. Stay well clear especially if you're a true melodic rock/metal follower! Cheers. KAOS FAN!

Everclear eh?

I bought their first album - "Sparkle and Fade" or something its called - on the strength of a couple of their songs. Heroin Girl and something else (unforgettable album obviously ;-)). Very disappointing in the end, I've steered clear of them ever since. A mate of mine just ordered the new one so I'll be having a listen to that I guess.

Live's album "The Distance From Here" is fantastic, probably the best album I bought last year. I'm quite into Live as it goes, Dolphin's Cry is the most commercial song on the album, and not even the best, so check it out Carl. You've gotta check out "They Did It For Love", fucking unbelievable!

And to my most anticipated album of the year, also mentioned in this thread, the new Marvelous 3 album. Can't wait for that. I haven't been able to relieve my stereo of Hey! since I bought it and I've been hanging for the new one forever it seems. I've heard a few sound bytes and I reckon I'm going to enjoy it. Don't suppose anyone knows the release date please?

Cheers and beers

Benno

So I know the SUPERTRANSATLANTIC album and yes, it is cool.

Have you heard Jason's 'demos'? They are available to download at www.bvbmusic.com the label he co-owns. Really, he puts many people to shame with the quality of his stuff. Check out a song called 'Two Fallen' particularly to see what I mean. There's actually a full album of songs to download there and if you use MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX you can sort them into a playlist just like an album on yer PC. Cool huh?

I need to check out FRANKIE MACHINE and SAMANTHA 7, Thanks.

Oh yeah, FRANCIS DUNNERY is playing Manchester again on the 10th November. You're into Frankie right?
