Def Leppard Rocked

Hey,Just saw Def Leppard in Clarkson, Mi on Sat & the show was awesome. This was my 6th time seeing them & they were strong as ever. Joe was strong on vocal's, Phil & Viv were great on guitar so it was excellent. I would recommend this show to anyone

Leppard rock US shock!!

Cool that Leppard seem to be going down so well over there. I just hope this gets reported in the mainstream UK music press but I suspect it won't.

THIS is why this sort of music isn't coming back over here. It's being HELD back by an industry ashamed to admit that one of its most popular musical exports in 2000 is rock band from the 80's!!

RE: The Unband

Yeah, IMO, they *did* suck. The problem with most opening bands is that they rarely are appropriately teamed up with the headliner -- especially if the opener is a relatively unknown. All too often you will get shows where the opener and the headliner are completely different styles of music. When someone is a fan of a band such as Def Leppard, it is a very rare occurrence when that person would also enjoy a band that is the complete opposite of the headliner's style of music.

I think it is more the promoters that have a say in this sort of thing rather than the headlining band itself. Most often these tours are put together to promote both bands whether or not they complement each other. I really think that they are doing the openers a disservice when they try to do this, because they are clearly not targeting the right audience in the first place.

More often than not, they end up sabotaging these efforts when fans start spreading their displeasure of the opener. Word of mouth travels very quickly, as we all can see from being a part of the Internet explosion, so I'm sure that will in turn discourage other fans from even giving these guys a chance in the future. Had they have been paired with the likes of harder, more alternative style bands, the crowd may have responded quite differently.

With the music business in the state that it is in, I would hope that these promoters/labels would develop a more strategic marketing ploy. I would have definitely enjoyed the likes of Vaughn or Danny Danzi much better. ;-)

Rocker Chic

RE: Def Leppard Rocked

I have to agree with Rockerchic. I was at the PNC show though in the 400's...darn! They sounded great and yes a little too much bass, but the sound was still 100% better there than Poison turned up to 11!
In the back at times you couldn't hear the band because the fans were screaming the songs, standing rarely sitting..a true testament to the bands greatness.
The one thing that really sucked, as was the general consences around me...the opening act. Not that they were that bad but no one wanted to hear them. I along with others would have prefered a better opening act. Now I know money is an issue with that, but why not take out some band posted on this site. I am sure they would come just as cheap, but would gain the USA exposure.

RE: Def Leppard Rocked

Saw them on 7/25 at PNC in NJ. The show was incredible, however, the sound mix wasn't the greatest. A little too heavy in the bass. I've seen other shows there and the sound is usually great, so I would guess that it was the Lep's sound crew.

Further down in the board, another fan commented on at what point Phil took his shirt off... Yep, right after the 2nd song! ;-)

The crowd in NJ was incredible! Dancing, singing, cheering, and *standing* throughout the entire show. I looked toward the back several times and not a single person in the amphitheater was seated... ever!

The crowd around us rapidly became pretty annoying, insisting on walking past us in the row even though it was drastically shorter to go in the opposite direction. I suppose if you are *beyond drunk* your distance perception will tend to be somewhat blurred. :-P

Just a brief comment on their look.... Joe's hair looked so much better longer and he looked somewhat younger with the darker color. Rick's hair is longer as well, and we all commented on it being the first time we saw him in pants and socks. :-) Phil and Viv look basically the same, but that's not a bad thing. And, my favorite, Sav, was looking great with the longer hair! He also was looking extremely happy since the recent birth of his child. (Congrats, Sav!)

All in all, it was a great Lep show... as usual. I would see them again in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Next stop... Night Ranger and Pat Benatar!

Rocker Chic
