HEARTLAND'S NEW ALBUM!

Out in September according to Andrew. Can't wait - this is my most anticipated album of the year especially due to the reports of a harder edged sound. Heartland are a great AOR rock band and in Chris Ousey have one of the classiest and most versatile vocalists. Your pionts - RATHER LARGE CANINE are valid. I stick to thew contention that Ousey is one of the best vocalists in the business and with a harder edged sound I foresee the next Heartland album being an absolute cracker. And as for the Escape records jibe, Nicky I think it's exremely unfair. For a comparatively small label ESCAPE have one of the best quality ratios in the business - I've hardly ever purchased a cd from them that hasn't impressed me.
RE: Make that: I am not anticipating ... (np)

I will take issue with you on several points. It all boils down to tastes and opinions (versus right or wrong).

"For me personnaly, Heartland's music has no passion"

I am very sure that Chris and Steve do not not sit down and deliberately try to write music that is passionless to them. I do not think that writing that their music "has no passionl" is a very fair comment to make. In particular, I would think that most artists strive to put their passion into their art. To write in your opinion that the artist has failed to accomplish one of the most fundamental aspects in their effort heads into the "cruel to be kind" territory. I suspect that writing "Heartland's music does not stir my passions" would reflect your opinion without taking a cheap shot at the band (which I doubt was your true intention).

"Cranted Ousey's voice is great sometimes, he's is better when he pushes his voices in a higher range"

I have the completely opposite opinion. One of the best Heartland songs I have ever heard was "This Is Christmas" (which Andrew posted a few years back). The song is done with only Steve on acoustic guitar and Chris on vocals. The song is fairly slow paced and Chris never has to push his voice.

"I think it's time for a change of label for those guys as the promotion they have had hasn't exactly been fruitful"

This is a real cheap shot at Escape. Your implication is that somehow Escape is holding Heartland back and that N&T or Z who do more to promote their bands via live gigs would somehow make a big difference to the band. The market is so small that I jusr don't see how a label or promotion change would matter that much, at least sales wise.

barking on,
Big Doggie

Steve Morris is a great guitar player, he wasn't playing with Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame for nothing. And I'm an aor nut and I say unreservedly Heartland are one of the best aor bands around. I wouldn't want to compare Heartland to the distance either as they complement each other. As for the comparisons between MORRIS and KAOS they are both excellent players and it's difficult to choose between them. The word on the new HEARTLAND album circulating for months is that it's the hardest edged thing they've ever done and I for one can't wait. As for your criticisms of the ESCAPE label, if it wasn't for the company Heartland would probably be out of business so an element of praise please. Escape and MTm/frontiers are doing a great job - let's give them some credit.

(np)

For me personnaly, by and large Heartland's music has no passion, it' sounds like studio engineered material, delibritley put together for the AOR masses, and did not work well live!!! personnaly- I think they would sound a whole lot better if they got themselves a different producer and recorded their albums outside of the UK It will give Heartland a fresh sound which will make them stand out in front of the crowd.. So many UK bands have this sound that sounds flat, and Heartland could be so much better, Cranted Ousey's voice is great sometimes, he's is better when he pushes his voices in a higher range, but still Hearltand's songs are just mediocre AOR fodder, but I still look forward to a Heartland album with the hope that I get completley blown away someday, but I doubt it, the first album remains my fave and the song "Carrie Ann" is a well cool ballad!! I think it's time for a change of label for those guys as the promotion they have had hasn't exactly been fruitful, the classic phrase I hear from people is "Are those guys still together?", so really speaking Heartland are still an underground band and to take things further they need a label change, no disresepect to their current label as they are cool, but they don't exactly promote their bands enough. But it's good to see that they are putting on some shows at long last and I can't wait to see ALLIANCE!!!
Still roll on the new Heartland album, from the press releases it could be a good one!! Watch this space!!!

Still good luck with that band and I hope that you can bring them over for the Escape Festival that's around the corner, it should be good to see ALLIANCE!!!! but why no SILENT WITNESS?
