Is it just me about Van Halen?

I was just wondering if anyone else is curious to how the 9 songs that were recorded with Gary Cherone sounded by Van Halen? Ill have to admit although i think there is alot that dissagree with me, That I liked Gary with them. It took a little while to get used to the songs with him but I didnt think they were all bad. He might not have been as good as Sammy or Dave just had a different style. I saw Extreme a few years back and thought they were real good. Never saw him with VH though. I just think the best song that was recorded with him should be a hiden song or something on the new CD. Just curious thats all. What was ever the real story with him leaving or is that a mystery too.

As for Eddie's fire being gone, you're right. But the reason for that is the fact that Dave wasn't there. Sammy and Ed wrote some good stuff (and some not so good) but Sammy was too easy going with Eddie, not pushing him enough. And needless to say, VDIII didn't push him at all. "Me Wise Magic" had the spirit of the old Van Halen, and I believe the new album will be a return to form.

Mrpool wrote:
-----------------------------
And in the end, BIG EGOS will drive this band apart (see Dokken) & we'll see a new lead singer once again.
-------------------------------

It's always possible this may not last long, but there is no way in Hell they will ever attempt a 4th singer after the failure of the third.

Gary did sound alot better with Extreme. His lyrics fit extreme alot better than they would VH. Can you imagine any song off of Porno Graphiti on a VH album??? No way!!! I actually thought Gary would have sounded alot better with Van HAlen. Considering Nuno is such a great guitarist as like Eddie. Like i said I liked the 3 album. It wasnt the best but not bad. As for Dave being back. No matter what Its not gonna last. Lets face it, Egos are gonna be a big problem. Besides Daves latest solo stuff wasnt that great either so. Maybe its time for VH to make this tour a farewell one if they can make it all the way through it.

Matt

Those songs except a few were given to him by eddie in sammy's range. He tried to please
eddie and had to strain his voice way beyond its capabilities. His music with
Extreme always suited gary's voice & never had to strain so much. Notice
gary's vocals are mixed way down on some of the songs and eddie's guitar
is way over the mix.
There was going to be trouble ahead at that point. It was the best
thing to happen to gary to leave those Van Halen boys. Now he can sing
different styles than have to sing within set parameters.

RE: Is it just me about Van Halen?

The only past or current member of Van Halen/Hagar/Danniels to utter a single word in public this year has been Sammy Hagar. Making a live appearance at the Sundance film festival earlier in the year, Sammy was of course asked if he knew anything about the current status of VH and if he had talked to them. Turns out that Sammy hadn't talked to any of them since September 1996. This ended speculation that he was back in the band, leaving of course, only one viable candidate for the job, the best candidate, the original, the one who created the position in the first place, DAVID LEE ROTH.

Dave has been silent. Gary has been silent. Eddie, Mikey, and Alex have been silent. Official word of the dickhead mamager who ruined the band, Ray Danniels, being fired has never been released. Only one common denominator fits here... Legal issues (most likely begun by Danniels to get money he neither earned nor deserves from the band) are what is keeping all of them silent and keeping the new Van Halen album and tour from progressing.

As for Cherone's departure, theories have ranged everywhere from WB suits demanding the return of DLR to Gary volunteering to walk away because he himself realized the chemistry wasn't there, to the band not liking Cherone's political activism (Last summer he wrote an "open letter" to Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, which was used by a "pro-life" organization for publicity, and just weeks before his firing, Cherone appeared in an interview on the Fox network defending his beliefs)

The aborted VD III sequel (working title "Left For Dead" -and no I didn't make that up) will probably never see the light of day. I wouldn't even expect for bootlegs of this to surface, since the 1985 5150 demos w/Dave and the lost Van Hagar song "Between Us Two" remain tightly locked away in Eddie's vault.

If any of the music itself was worthy of the Van Halen sound, it just might resurface in a totally rewritten form by the real Van HALEN. Cherone is said to be working on both his first solo album as well as the soundtrack for a movie called "The Habit" in which he also has a small acting role.

As for the new Van HALEN album, the wait is almost over....
