New Velocity - opinions.....

Well, I downloaded the Velocity track from the forthcoming (well, sort of forthcoming since it will take a long time) CD....

Very disappointing. For Velocity standards at least. Quite heavy, and very grungy in flavor. Un-melodic riffing. Things get better in the chorus, and even then it becomes decent, maybe borderline ok but nothing beyond that. Could've come from one of those rock grunge bands, for certain, and bears no resemblance to "Impact". Maybe it's a grower?

For all his railining against grunge in "Riot Going On", that's what David Victor has offered up...I wouldn't mind at all if this were the experimental track off the new album - as it is many artists are offering up one or two "modern-flavored" tracks for the sake of variety.

But a whole album like this, I would definitely not buy. This will not do, no sirree....

Cheers,
Jack.

Another perfectly good band gone to crap. I guess the hate mail is pouring in in droves, because old Dave Victor is posting sappy "excuse mail" on various rock sites all over..Says Portrait rejected them because they weren't "alternative enough". Also, he says its "melodic"....huh??? Maybe he better get his ears checked, because it nothing more than rehashed early 90's grunge fodder....

To steal a title from one of their songs..Velocity--You simply "Don't Amaze Me Anymore"!!! At least there were two good albums prior to this load of crap!!!

Zacman

Its heavy, chunky, driving, it rocks big time. If the whole album is like this then I'm buying two copies, one spare for when I wear out the first ;-). I get that dark driving vibe that the Southpaw album had on it. I can't wait for this, this is fantastic. I'm off to tell the rest of my world.

Cheers and beers!!!

Benno

RE: New Velocity - opinions.....

I like "Stay", it's a good song But I was surprised at how heavy it was. For some reason it reminds me of Engine. The soloproject from Fates Warning singer Ray Alder.
I listen to everything from Reo Speedwagon to Slayer. But my view is that I think Velocity should stay more melodic.
I hope this will be one of the heavier tracks from the album. The guitarsound was almost too heavy/grungy... I like the melodic sound on Impact.
But then again it's hard to judge how the album will sound after just hearing one track. I like some diversity. The latest Danger Danger being a good example of different types of songs, but they all blend together on the album.

Proof through the night is not as good as Impact. It's a bit more AOR, and I think David has developed as a songwriter since then. Anyway it's still a good album, definetly worth buying.

/D
