Symphonic Scorpions!

I thought I'd 'grown out' of the Scorpions. That I'd never buy another album again but one listen to their new album with the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra and I've changed my mind. It just blew me away!!

I know they'll get slagged off for ripping off Metallica ( although in 'Classic Rock' Klaus Meine reckoned they had investigated the idea first) but taken by itself it is just excellent. Possibly even better than Metallica's. The material seems to lend itself over to the concept even better. The first track is a totally AWESOME version of 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' (Hurricane 2000) which is even better than the original. The ballads like 'Wind of Change' and 'Send Me An Angel' are perhaps the more obvious successes but who would have expected an instrumental, orchestral version of 'He's A woman, She's A Man' to rock like a bastard as much as this!!

Just try it! Put away all your pre-conceptions and get a listen to 'Hurricane 2000' at least. I think you'll be impressed. But if it's a success, where do they go from here?

And I also saw them perform a couple of songs with that orchestra on German TV during opening ceremonies for the Hannover world exhibition.

Look, I used to dig the Scorps like probably most other people on this board. It's just that for the past couple of years, they've been trying to jump on every bandwagon out there.

Peter

And I appreciate what Peter has to say about the band's standing today. You would be hard pushed to find a less 'cool' band on planet Earth, but like I said in my first post, give it a try and then if you think it's a pile of shite then that's up to you.
However slagging both the record and the band without listening to it is both unfair and very blinkered. How many more bands might your pre-conceptions prevent you from hearing?

And needless to say that these guys are so desperate to do pretty much anything that prevents their career from sliding even further. Well guys, a couple of more years and then you can finally cash in your social securtiy checks and move to Monaco.

Peter

Deep Purple did that shit back in '69 when Lars Ulrich was still shitting his diaper for cryin' out loud! Uli Jon Roth did a full on orchestra production back in the early 90's in Belgium and has come with an orchestrated disc since, Yngwie did his symphony thing a couple of years ago, and Rage from Germany did theirs before that. Purple just released another disc with some symphony as have Kansas, and Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke conducted an classical orchestra doing Led Zep a few years ago I believe. And I'm not even gonna get into ELP and the whole 70's prog movement...
