IRON MAIDEN'S DIRECTION!

Much speculation on the Maiden tour and especially support slots. I for one can appreciate the reasoning behind Slayer supporting Maiden(as John Q) suggests but frankly I'm disappointed. Maiden do not need anyone to maximise their arena pulling potential. The interest in the reformation worldwide has been phenomenal and I feel they should have taken a chance in the American market and got a good melodic hard rock band like TEN or perhaps as Mark Ashton suggested Edguy, Stratovarius etc. Even on their preparatory tour of America last year Maiden filled arenas everywhere. Why have Slayer on the support - their fanbase is nowhere near as big as Maiden's(granted they are loyal) and I feel it was time to take a chance.
And this talk of demographics is illusory - here in Australia Maiden are loved by the kids and the older metal fan. They have cred across the board and the interest surrounding the Maiden tour is really great. I saw Helloween support Maiden two years ago in Britain and frankly with Bayley on vocals Helloween were better. But with BRUCE back I expect a great comeback! But like I say I would prefer Maiden taking a chance with their support slots, and especially incorporate more melodic bands into the lineup than Slayer. I would suggest as possibles Ten , Helloween etc., or if American bands are required what about the melodic power metal bands ICED EARTH or VIRGIN STEELE or even SAVATAGE.
RE: IRON MAIDEN SUPPORT SLOT

The reason why Entombed are doing Scandinavia is a) they are also handled by Sanctuary, and b) they are from Sweden. Maiden do not need for a supporting act to bring in people in Europa where they're huge, but the US is another story. Halford is also now managed by Sanctuary, which is why he'll get the US leg. With tours on that level it's all about keeping it in the family, bands sharing either mgmt, a record company and/or a booking agent. Which is exactly why second-tier bands from Stratovarius to Iced Earth to Ten will never get to go on tour with a bigger bands - at least not outside of Europe. Unless you move up from indie land and can start dealing with the major players, you'll be stuck in indie land forever doing clubs and playing for basically the same audience everytime out...

Maiden's.

I wonder if the Maiden album will sell 35,000 copies on it's first day of release in any one territory?

Shit! I sound like Mark Ashton here!!

RE: IRON MAIDEN SUPPORT SLOT

Apparently, Swedish death metal band Entombed will support Iron Maiden here in
Scandinavia at least. Originally, Halford was up for the part.

It's no about needing anyone to maximise their arena pulling potential - or having cred. The reasons for having support bands mainly are financial/logistical ones, plus it's more value for money for the concert goers to see more than one band.

Personally I like it if the headliners and support bands are somewhat similar in style.

I just love it when both the headliner and support bands are major bands. Mr. Big
supporting Aerosmith springs to mind. Amazing stuff...

Stigma
