SHAME ON METALLICA

Despicable, outrageous, conniving, greedy, ridiculous are just some of the words that describe my anger at Metallica for hiring a private investigator to track consumers downloading songs on the internet possibly leading to prosecution. Are these guys for real or are they simply not satisfied with their million dollar accounts? I mean who got them to their "exalted" position in the first place - some of these same 300 000 people who are supposedly now being "investigated". Personally, I don't illegally download any music on the net. If I like something I go and buy it the old fashioned way!
To me it looks like Metallica are trying to milk the gravy train for all its worth. For what it's worth I don't believe they've done anthing decent since JUSTICE and the only albums I'd even remotely call classic are RIDE THE LIGHTNING and KILL 'EM ALL.
Sorry Metallica but your heads are ensconsced so far up your nether regions that you can't see reality. You guys are greedy and in creative terms miles behind true legends like DEEP PURPLE, ZEPPELIN, THIN LIZZY etc. And live you don't hold a candle to any of the aforementioned bands and also many of the "smaller" bands on this melodicrock site.

RE: SHAME ON METALLICA--AMEN!! (np)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Software like Napster is promoting the infringement of copyright law but, more importantly, it is going to put people like myself out of business.
Many 'small people' working in the music industry like small retailers (hell, even the multiples are shitting themselves), the small mail order companies that have kept this scene going on the underground over recent years, small specialist labels like Z and N&T and untlimately artists themselves.
Danny Danzi has already posted his response to this problem on this board. Basically if more people go online to get the music for free than actually PAY for it then we can all kiss goodbye to any quality music coming from anyone who isn't loaded.
The net is a fantastic way for artists and labels to promote music. I'm all for mp3 to distribute music UNAVAILABLE ELSEWHERE. And REAL fans will still go out and buy their favourite artists music but there are a hell of a lot of people out there who wouldn't think twice about downloading it for free, burning it to CD and then stealing sleeves from my store and scanning them in to duplicate them in future.
Don't beleive me? It's already happening!
This is not about greed or even about Metallica. It's about protecting the livelihoods of thousands and thousands of people who have made music and the love of it their lives.
I'm not ready to lose my job. Don't take it away from me!

I've tried to keep this as brief as possible but I'll happily respond to any other posts.

First off in 1999 the music industry made more money than in recent years, i think BECAUSE of free MP3's. I do download somgs off of Napstar and other places, but like all fans of their respective bands we then seek out these rare songs. The only 2 solutions to this is 1) don't do any "B-sides" that is the bulk of rock/metal downloads. 2) release it! If you record a shitload of rare covers or tracks that didn't make it....sell it! Shame on the band. Also about live bootlegs. Why not have the sound guy record the concert and tell fans who attend the show "show proof of attendance and you can buy the cd to the show you just saw for (lets say) $. Hell for the shows i go 2 I would.

RE: SHAME ON METALLICA

So Metallica should just sit back and enjoy the money they have while people are stealing their music? Yeah, I agree with you 100%. Metallica are such assholes for going after thieves. Next time someone steals your car stereo, I think you should throw in a couple of free CD's with it. Or better yet, maybe you should work your ass off at your job, and have your company pay a homeless person instead of you. C'mon man, why is Metallica all of a sudden the bad guys? Music shouldn't be for free unless the artist authorizes it. And in this case they didn't. 'Nuff said.
RD
