If
Johnny Lima was to be the
Mr Rock N Roll of the day, then
Kip Winger was to be
Mr. Smooth.
Kip was back to reprise his acoustic set of a couple of Gods ago and played at a time where the line up of acts could have used a short time of reflection.
That reflection came in the form of a 45 minute acoustic performance, set to dimmed lights and a hushed atmosphere. That was except between songs where the applause was deafening.
In the set list was most of what appeared on Kip's recent acoustic albums
Made By Hand and
Down Incognito. All the Winger classics (
Easy Come Easy Go, Miles Away, Can't Get Enough, Blind Revolution Mad) plus a serving of new and recent solo album tracks (
Steam, How Far Will We Go, The Cross).
Kip got a little pissy with the sound guy a couple of times, it seems he was having difficulty obtaining that perfect pitch, but he got there in the end.
It was a class performance by an artist that has clearly the experience many others would kill for. His polished and passionate vocals held the attention of those there to see him, while others took the opportunity to take a break from the 4 hour sonic blast to get some fresh air or a drink.
Kip did sign plenty of slicks outside the stage area after his set, but left soon after.
