Shauna Young, 21, is a St. Louis based pop-rock artist that blends her crystalline voice with a power-edged styling that provides a quality not heard enough in today’s music. Armed with irresistible charm and defiance to the status quo, she offers a fresh voice and a melodic soulfulness that sets her apart from the bland norm of female pop singers.
Born, basically, with a microphone in hand, Shauna has performed for various types of audiences from a very early age – and always to the delight of her listeners. Shauna has also won various vocal competitions, the highlight being the St. Louis Pop Star Contest sponsored by a local Radio Station Z-107.7. Upon winning the contest Shauna was invited to perform a song for 20,000 people as the opening act at the Summer Jam concert featuring P.Diddy and a host of pop artists.
Having several musical influences ranging from Pat Benatar, Mariah Carey, Christina Aquilera to Aretha Franklin, Shauna’s versatile vocal ability and original sense of style allows her to create songs ranging from beautiful soulful ballads, to energetic soulful pop-rock.
The two songs showcased here, “Given Enough,” and “Shine,” could be described as Pat Benatar meets Christine Aguilera as they offer compelling and melodic vocals in a pop rock motif. These songs were written in a collaborative effort between Shauna and producer, singer-songwriter Phil Taylor (Future Leaders of the World, Machina). With her remarkable voice and uncanny zeal for success, Shauna will undoubtedly be making waves in the music industry for years to come.

St. Louis’ SHAUNA YOUNG from a very young age always loved singing, ‘It just came to me naturally’ she says, ‘I would grab a microphone and perform for my parents in the living room. My mother would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and with my sunglasses on I responded, ‘I want to be a star!’
Shauna has the potential to be a star with excellent catchy songs like the powerhouse rocker ‘Given Enough’ with it’s guitar cranking riffs and smooth high powered vocals.
Shauna is inspired by Pat Benatar, Mariah Carey, and Journey. ‘So many singers don't seem to exhume the passion of these artists’ she says, ‘I think Benatar brought female fronted rock to new level. She was a rocker, but had a wonderful melodic voice. Carey have amazing vocal talent. My style and persona has definitely been crafted by their influence. Journey is Journey, what can I say? I just love ‘Faithfully’ one of my all time favourites. I almost feel like I am floating when I listen to it.’
The reaction to Shauna’s music has taken her by surprise, as she is yet to release her debut album ‘The labels so often control the destiny of any aspiring artist. I have attempted to create melodic but edgy pop/rock songs. I think this style of music is missing in the ‘scene’ today. The generation before me grew up on rock. My generation has listened to everything from Pop, Pop/Rock, Alternative to Urban. I am looking for that magical mix somewhere between it all.’
‘Like so many artists, I am looking for the finances to produce a truly professional album’ she explains, ‘I continue to hope my current demo will attract the right people and things will take off from there’
