Artist Bio
Hannover has been for a long time a stronghold for melodic Metal/Hard Rock. In the seventies their was a potent and vital rockscene here which stretched through all of Europe and even America delivering bands such as the Scorpions who became the figurehead of the Hannover movement. In the eighties it was bands like Thunderhead, Fair Warning and Victory who kept the scene alive. Now with Nikki Puppet, a worthy successor has been found to carry on the tradition. Formed in November 2003 under the name “Hungry”, guitarist Christos Mamalitsidis and singer Nicky Gronewold, who had met through an ad in a music magazine, composed a handfull of songs. These songs and their ambitional personalities then started to cause a storm in the local insider circles.
After essential changes in the band line up in early 2004, bass player Anke Sobek and drummer Michael Wolpers complete the structure which delivers a strong and dynamic performance. At the same time in early 2004, producer Hermann Frank (Accept, Victory) became aware of the band and produced a 4 track demo with them. This recording was rewarded with a lot of positive press in Hannover and so in the summer of 2004 it was time to hit the road and carry over this success on the stage. This the band did and with a set which consisted of their own compositions, they proved their quality as a live band.
Due to this massive stage presence, the impressed Hermann Frank offered his services once again to record a full album with Nikki Puppet! A further six songs were produced and added to the other four to create the full debut album Puppet On A String. Even before the release, the press were falling over themselves to give raving reviews and it’s no wonder because Nikki Puppet are easily capable of taking the high standards from their studio productions on to the stage – whether playing with distortion – or sensitively– Unplugged. How many other bands out there can give this guarantee?
MILITANT MOTHER
The new album 'Militant Mother' entices with 11 crisp, stick in the head compositions, where the bridge has been skilfully built between traditional Heavy Rock and modern Metal. Their musical repertoire ranges from Up-tempo numbers such as the opener 'Lost in Time' or 'Open up your mind' to Heavy Rock songs such as 'Militant Mother', the rocking punk styled 'Paralized' through to the balladic 'Turning in Circles' or the rockin’ steam engine version of Billy Joel´s legendary song 'We Didn't Start the Fire', that still today is topically relevant. Through the productive, symbiotic partnership between producer Herman Frank and NIKKI PUPPET the band’s own individual style has been able to develop and is now shown to the fullest.
Between the 9. May and 7. June 2006 NIKKI PUPPET successfully toured through Europe as support for the Michael Schenker Group, at the end of the tour they then played a successful concert at the Wacken Open Air Festival 2006. In December 2006 the band was again tour, this time as support for VICTORY. NIKKI PUPPET made a big Radio-Promo-Tour in spring of 2007 in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
