With a clear message fired at Corporate Greed, Dictators and failed social systems The Commander gives her version of the state of the world right now on her debut EP “State of the Union 2009“.
This 19 year old songwriter/guitarist/singer and visual artist plays all the guitar tracks and does all the vocals and background vocals herself. SHE IS THE CREATOR OF A NEW MUSIC STYLE; HYBRID ROCK™ ; the power of Rock with the message of Punk and the catchiness of Pop - inspired by Metal techniques.
Demonstrating her extraordinary vocal capacity, she kicks off with numerous F6s in the opening song "DROPOUT". In "STARVING ARTIST" she takes it up 2 notes to G6 (she does 4 of them). She sang them all within minutes in the studio and she almost blew the mikes because of her power in that supersonic register! To top it all, she took it down 3 octaves and 5 notes to D3, to show her full range. Her “THOU SHALL ONLY HAVE ONE GOD” is the most Metal of her songs and it is a “slap in the face” to corporate greed.
Having written more than 40 songs already, “THOU SHALL” took 2 years to write and just as long to be able to play because of the guitar riffs in the opening minute. Her music has been described as “The music this decade has long been waiting for! It is familiar but it is different, it is Metal but it is daring, but most of all it is Unique!” (Mike Mitchell, bcb106,6FM) Her songwriting skills are being compared to those of Jack White (DJ Meatwad, Head Case Radio) and she has also been called “a fresh breath in the whole music picture - just like Bowie was when he released Ziggy Stardust!” by S.R.Eriksen, (www.norskmusikk.org) who said “Great songs, insane guitar playing and a totally unique voice!”
Thanks to Myspace she has dedicated fans in more than 20 countries and her music is now on independent rock and Metal radios in 10 countries. She recorded her Demo in Chicago in 2007/2008 with Grammy nominated and Platinum selling producer/bassist Paul Richmond and drummer extraordinaire James Knowles (R.Kelly, Toni Braxton, etc).
Her courage to go new ways is combined with a deep understanding and respect for the history of music, its composers/songwriters and performers over hundreds of years. Among her musical influences you will find names from very different genres, from Black Metal to Randy Rhoads to Mozart. She is self taught on guitar but since August 2008 she has taken guitar lessons specializing in Metal techniques, after attending “the Metal Hammer guitar weekend, where she had master classes with Steve Smyth (Nevermore and Testament) and acclaimed guitar teacher Martin Goulding. She has since been a student of Mr Goulding. She is also studying old school Italian Bel Canto technique with daily singing lessons.
The Commander was raised in four different countries (Italy, Norway, France and USA) before moving to London in 2008. She speaks four languages and she creates all the artwork to her songs herself. She also made her first animated music video herself. A private investor backed the recording of the debut EP in November/December 2008 with heavy rock/metal producer Nick Hemingway at Philia Studios. The EP can be ordered here now!
