CATHERINE DELGADILLO has just released her new instrumental CD called 'Paradise Swamp’. Catherine comes from California and is totally self taught. ‘I started fiddling around and then basically started teaching myself and learning by ear. Writing music on the guitar, as well as piano, became my favourite pastime. I was also a lead singer/guitarist in a band for a while.’ As Catherine’s musical tastes changed so did her priorities in life, which led to a ten-year break. Her new CD started to come together in 2006. Catherine spent hours learning the licks in her head to enable her to record her vision. A year later ‘Paradise Swamp’ was completed. ’It was definitely one of the hardest but yet rewarding things I’ve done in my life,’ explains Catherine. ‘I not only had to learn how to play what was in my head but had to learn the engineering aspects of recording and laying down the tracks as well. It was well worth the effort though and I’m glad I did it.’
Recorded it at her home studio in Scotts Valley, ‘Paradise Alley’ is an wonderfully diverse album produced by Catherine herself alongside her husband.
Catherine is currently in the process of finding the right players to take her album out on the road. ‘When I play music, I am at my happiest. It’s a part of who I am and a part of who I always will be. I want people to know me for that and, even if there’s no recording contract or having one of my compositions reach the top of the Billboard charts, I hope that my music will be inspiring and entertaining to others.’
Since the release of ‘Paradise Swamp’ Catherine has made numerous guest apperances on recording projects as well as other side projects and a new solo CD that she will start making early 2009. - Nicky Baldrian
