Gary Wright Innovates For The Dream Weaver, InTheStudio.Net Explores Backstory Of Classic Album

Dallas, TX - August 28, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands speaks to keyboardist/synth pioneer Gary Wright about his hit 1975 album and single The Dream Weaver.

Robert Moog, the inventor of the electronic musical synthesizer, opened up a new frontier for popular music. Many artists have used the synth in modern recording, but in 1975 there was only one artist who took the power of the synthesizer to a whole new level.

Gary Wright was a young American in London who played keyboards for an otherwise British band Spooky Tooth (which included a pre-Foreigner Mick Jones).
Following the split of Spooky Tooth, Gary returned home to New Jersey and armed with a handful of songs, set off to make a solo album exclusively on electronic keyboard, organ and synthesizer for his third solo album, The Dream Weaver  .

Wright's bold move paid off with spectacular results from songs 'Love Is Alive', 'Made to Love You', 'Blind Feeling', 'Much Higher', 'Power of Love' (the only song to include electric guitar, courtesy of Ronnie Montrose) and the million-selling hit 'Dream Weaver'.

Gary shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard, the decisions he made in order to make The Dream Weaver.

'The whole sonic intent of the album was to have a lot of spaciousness in it, not a lot of instruments playing things. And everything that played something, to really make it count.'

The Classic Metal Show Now on iHeartRadio

Friday, August 29, 2014
Categories:

August 28th, 2014 - Chicago, IL - The Classic Metal Show, the hard hitting uncensored radio program that's been taunting the airwaves since 1996, has officially launched a brand new channel on the internet's largest radio portal, iHeartRadio.

"We're surprised, but happy to have become part of iHeartRadio's platform," says THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW founder and host Neeley. "We ruffle a lot of feathers by saying whatever we think and not acknowledging anyone's "line".  I guess this just proves that we're touching people's real emotions and not just doing another fluff program."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW has seen incredible growth in the last two years.  In addition to it's large live following Saturday nights from 9pm-3am EST on the show's 24/7 online station, podcasts of the show on Spreaker (www.spreaker.com/user/cmsrocks) recently topped 400,000 downloads in that time.

"It's really amazing that anyone listens to our nonsense," show co-host Chris Akin says.  "We say whatever comes to mind, regardless of if it's about relationships, heavy metal, racism, current events.  Sometimes people like it. Other times they don't. But they keep on listening. It's really fun to be part of something growing so fast."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW is an all topical, completely uncensored radio show that tackles all topics.  While based in hard rock and heavy metal, the show regularly strays off to popular culture and recently began exploring many new avenues and topics.  Recently, the guys interviewed Michelle Kath, the daughter and documentarian of late Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, as well as the most notorious drug kingpin since Al Capone, Freeway Ricky Ross.  With their newfound exposure to millions of listeners on iHeartRadio, the show hopes to see still wider growth in the entertainment landscape.

"We have so many things coming up that it's hard to address them all," Akin concludes.  "With a TV show in the works, inclusion of our show on Spotify, and now this great new channel on iHeartRadio, it's safe to say that things are brighter than ever in our little dark corner of cyberspace."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW is heard live on Saturdays from 9pm-3am EST, and is available for podcast on a multitude of platforms.  All are available on their website, www.theclassicmetalshow.com.

Thank you,

Chris Akin

Highway To Hell  35th Anniversary Bittersweet for AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young InTheStudio

Dallas, TX - August 26, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the 35th anniversary of Highway to Hell, the breakthrough album and bittersweet end of the Bon Scott era for AC/DC.

In August 1979 a lot of North American rock music fans had no idea that Highway to Hell  was the Australian-based AC/DC's fifth studio album, and that their long-suffering U.S. record label was getting frustrated by the band's lack of sales.

Short on money but with a full tank of steely determination, armed with a demo tape containing Highway to Hell , the band found and secured a young South African producer named 'Mutt' Lange. Lead guitarist Angus Young recounts to InTheStudio host Redbeard:

'We actually had written most of the songs in a weekend for Highway to Hell... We snuck in the rehearsal studio...we put a tape together and sent it to Mutt Lange and he said, 'Look, I hear what you're trying to do. I'm sure I can do you a great job'.'

The result was a rock masterpiece complete with the title track 'Highway to Hell', 'Girl's Got Rhythm', 'Shot Down In Flames', 'If You Want Blood'  which all to quickly became rock classics. But as rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young recalls, tragically, colorful lead singer Bon Scott would only get to enjoy the worldwide success of Highway to Hell  (certified seven million sold in the US) for another eight short months.

'Bon was unlucky, he just happened to fall asleep with his head in the wrong position from a big night of drinking... Bon wasn't a rockstar like Jim Morrison. Bon was a rock and roller. He lived that lifestyle, he didn't act that lifestyle.'

PETER WOLF Talks J Geils Band InTheStudio

Peter Wolf Throws House Party InTheStudio  For Two J. Geils Band Classics: Bloodshot, Nightmares...

Dallas, TX - April 21, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands throws down two consecutive Seventies albums, Bloodshot and Nightmares... from Boston's beloved J Geils Band.

Formed in 1967, the J Geils Band made a name for themselves as an incredible jump blues band. Music writers loved the Boston-based band for several reasons, not least of which was the unabashed authenticity that the all-white sextet brought to indigenous American black blues and R&B songs without the homogenization which usually diluted similar British attempts. And then there was the J. Geils Band's live show, which quickly became legendary.

Their first live album, Full House got significant national FM airplay which set up their next studio album in 1973, Bloodshot, exhibiting improved fuller sound courtesy of James Gang (later Eagles) producer Bill Szymczyk, and delivering their first Top 10 album and Top 40 single, 'Give It To Me'.

Forty years ago next month, J.Geils Band released Nightmares ... and other tales from the vinyl jungle building off their rise in popularity and delivering the rock radio fave 'Detroit Breakdown' and their first big hit 'Must of Got Lost'.

Peter Wolf, in conversation with InTheStudio host Redbeard, remembers the key to the appeal of the J. Geils Band.

'To really understand Geils records, you had to have seen the show... Our shows were like house parties. You come and get crazy, were going to get TWICE as crazy.'

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN Grammy Award-Winning Album 'In Step' 25 Years Later

Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble's Road To Redemption: Grammy Award-Winning Album In Step  25 Years Later

Dallas, TX - April 19, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the life of Stevie Ray Vaughan 25 years after the release of the Grammy Award winning album In Step, the 4th and final studio album from Stevie and band mates Double Trouble.

If you run the numbers of the Summer of 1989 album In Step by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, just the mere facts are impressive. In Step was the Texas trio's fourth studio album, but their first after Vaughan's collapse and near death from substance abuse while on tour in Germany had forced both Stevie and Double Trouble bass player Tommy Shannon into rehab. In Step won a Grammy Award, one of six Vaughan amassed, while racking up the best sales of Vaughan's lauded career.

Yet the significance of In Step as a musical statement of intent cannot be told by mere sales or awards. It can only be assessed by the friends who knew Stevie Ray Vaughan, the musicians who inspired him first, the players who supported him, and those he ultimately inspired. Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, the late Doyle Bramhall and biographer Joe Nick Patoski all join us InTheStudio. Blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa shares his thoughts with InTheStudio host Redbeard.

'Stevie's legacy is he was the guy who could put on a guitar, any guitar, play three notes and have people hooked... That you can't teach.'

SOUTHERN ROCK SPECIAL WITH THE OUTLAWS AND BLACKHAWK ON RICH DAVENPORT'S ROCK SHOW

Rich Davenport's Rock Show this week features a mammoth Southern Rock Special, focusing on The Outlaws and their family tree, and is available now for streaming at this link

http://www.mixcloud.com/richdav1/rich-davenports-rock-show-outlaws-special-henry-paul-blackhawk-harvey-dalton-arnold-david-dix/

In the first hour, Outlaws vocalist Henry Paul talks about the band's plans for 2015, which marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the band's debut album, and spills the beans on their plans for a new record. Henry also talks about the new album from his Acoustic /Roots/Americana band Blackhawk (also featuring members of the Outlaws), and its title track 'Brothers of the Southland', co-written by former Survivor member Jim Peterik (Pride of Lions), which pays tribute to fallen heroes of the Southern Rock genre, and features a guest guitar solo from Ed King, formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd. You can hear this track on the show, plus another song from the new Blackhawk record, and a classic from their first album.

Also in part 1, former Outlaws bassist Harvey Dalton Arnold discusses his new acoustic Blues album, 'Outlaw', and reflects on his recent reunion with former Outlaws compadres Henry Paul and Monte Yoho. Harvey selects tracks from 'Outlaw' (available from http://www.musicmaker.org/ ) and also a track from the Outlaws' classic 'Hurry Sundown' album.

In part two, former Outlaws drummer David Dix looks back on the history of the band, from their formative days in 1967, through the 70s and 80s, and then on to the reunion in 2005. David charts the ups and downs of the band's career during his time behind the drums, and chooses his favourite songs from 'Bring It Back Alive', 'Playin' To Win', 'In The Eye Of The Storm', 'Ghost Riders', 'Los Hombres Malo' and 'Soldiers of Fortune'

The show also features songs from two bands who are passionately striving to keep the Southern Rock flame burning, The Highway Ryders and The Righteous Hillbillies.
