InTheStudio - METALLICA

Artist:

Metallica's James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett Take On Heavy Load, In The Studio

Dallas, TX - Sept 18, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands goes one on one with Metallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett for a refreshingly honest interview about Metallica's highly anticipated 1996 follow-up to the mega-selling 'Black Album'.

After nearly a decade of hard and fast, Metallica began the '90s with what amounted to be their Sgt. Peppers, their Back in Black. Fondly referred to as Metallica's 'Black Album',  the band experienced a new level of fame, raising the obstinate band's confidence level to DEFCON 4.  So what next?

The highly defiant band had in their own way already made significant steps towards their future, most importantly with the addition of producer Bob Rock for the 'Black Album'.  Songs like 'Ain't My Bitch', 'Until It Sleeps', 'King Nothing', 'Hero of the Day' and 'Bleeding Me' had a stronger sonic punch, a broader appeal than their early speed metal. But superstar success made Metallica a big target, and  Load was not without controversy. James Hetfield tells InTheStudio host Redbeard why Metallica has always been able to look past criticism about the group.

'We're not afraid to say we're selfish. We are here playing this stuff for ourselves, and it's always been that way...We're into having the nuts to go try something else.'

STEVE SMITH Talks New Book 'Roots Of Rock Drumming'

Artist:

Former Journey Drummer Steve Smith was a recent guest on The FDH Lounge with Rick Morris to promote his new book,
"The Roots of Rock Drumming" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5oT3DftQ7E&list=UUgleHbQwuloA5Gkkhp_YXZw

Over 12 years in the making, Hudson Music proudly presents The Roots of Rock Drumming, a book/DVD package that takes a behind -the-scenes look at the origins of rock n roll drumming (1948-1965), told by many of the groundbreaking drummers who were there and took part in the creation of the music. This history is presented through the eyes of the players themselves, in detailed interviews with 22 of the men who invented rock drumming.

Featured drummers include Bobby Morris (Louis Prima), Dick Richards (Bill Haley and His Comets), Earl Palmer (Little Richard, New Orleans & LA studio), DJ Fontana (Elvis Presley), JM Van Eaton (Sun Records studio), Buddy Harman (Roy Orbison, Nashville studio), Jerry J.I. Allison (Buddy Holly and The Crickets), Hal Blaine (LA studio), Idris Muhammad (Curtis Mayfield, NY Studio), Sam Lay (Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chicago studio), Bernard Purdie (NY studio), Roger Hawkins (Muscle Shoals studio), Sandy Nelson (drum solo hits), and New Orleans stylists Smokey Johnson and John Boudreaux, along with British rock session players Brian Bennett, Bobby Graham, and Clem Cattini, followed by a younger generation of commentators who witnessed the rise of rock in their youth: Jaimoe, Carmine Appice, Steve Gadd, and Jim Keltner.

With interviews conducted by drumming great Steve Smith and Hudson Music founders Rob Wallis and Paul Siegel, and editing by noted drummer/historian Daniel Glass, this is easily one of the most important books on the history of drumming ever published. The included DVD contains excerpts from the actual interviews, and the text is presented in a coffee-table style with tons of rare photographs in a beautiful layout.

The included DVD contains nearly three hours of excerpts from the interviews, taking the viewer on an engaging, informative, funny, and sometimes poignant trip through the history of rock music. The full interviews will be made available online via hudsonmusic.com. It should be noted that this book contains no music notation, which makes it accessible to an even wider audience.

Dallas, TX - September 9, 2014. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind Historys Greatest Rock Bands pumps up the volume with the 25th anniversary of Aerosmiths 1989 mega selling album Pump.

A three dimensional hard rock masterpiece, Pump delivered Aerosmiths deepest well of songwriting, blistering performance chops, and the most innovative production of any hard rock album to date, courtesy of the late Bruce Fairbairn.

Its blazing energy and cinematic presentation combined with unforgettable songs make Pump one of Aerosmiths biggest sellers (over 7+ million), producing three Top 10 hits Janies Got A Gun, Love In An Elevator, What It Takes and delivering the band its first Grammy Award.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard how protective the band is with the creative process in the studio.

A guy came in while we were recording, rehearsing this album, doing pre-production and he mentions, Well you gotta have an Angel, you gotta have a Dude, and we threw him out... When you look at it like that it becomes a business thing, plus it can tend to scare you half to death.

InTheStudio - PAT BENATAR

Artist:

Pat Benatar 'Heats' Up 35 Years Of Hits On InTheStudio.Net

Dallas, TX - Sept 4, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands , celebrates the career of Pat Benatar with an extensive look back at the Eighties' biggest-selling female rocker on the 35th anniversary of her debut In the Heat of the Night .

Pat Benatar, born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski in Brooklyn New York, no doubt inherited her 4 1/2 octave voice from her mother who'd been in the chorus of the New York City opera. But at 19, Pat decided to forgo Julliard and opera and got married.
Her first big break would come as a cabaret singer at the club Catch a Rising Star, which would lead to a record deal and her first album, 1979's In The Heat Of The Night.

Pat and her musical director, guitarist/co-writer Neil Giraldo would go on to make '80s musical gold, including winning an unprecedented four Grammy Awards in a row for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1982 Pat and Neil would make their professional life personal, marrying in Hawaii.

Pat Benatar shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard what it was like being a breakout female rockstar in the early '80s with her record company pushing sex appeal while the Feminist Movement pushed back, with Benatar squeezed between them.

'It was an exciting time, but it was very confusing. Ten years down the road everybody figured out where to be and what's cool and what's not. It's not like today when all of us made mistakes and now people can look at us and say, 'Ok, we won't do what they did.'  That's the whole point of time passing. People now that come out get to see what not to do... We had no one, I had no one to look to.'

QUEEN InTheStudio: Roger Taylor, Brian May Discuss Live At The Rainbow '74

Artist:

Queen Open Rock Time Capsule InTheStudio : Roger Taylor, Brian May Discuss Live At The Rainbow '74

Dallas, TX - September 3, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands takes the wrapper off Queen Live at the Rainbow '74, a rock time capsule of an embryonic band making the leap from London cult band to stadium filler.

Forty years ago when a young London quartet called Queen headlined the venerable Rainbow Theater there, recording the performance on audio and film was a daunting task, both technologically and financially. Live recording then was much more art than science, no do-overs, no digital tricks, nowhere to hide.

After two studio albums and a trial-by-fire legendary US tour supporting lovable Mott the Hoople, Queen was ready to reign over the Rainbow Theater, and in late March of 1974 they nailed it. The performance was so strong that the band would return in November of that year to play two more sold-out shows in support of their third album Sheer Heart Attack.

Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band's most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced.

'I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, 'These tracks are great!' I forgot that we were a really heavy band.'

Guitarist Brian May continues, 'There weren't any tricks to be had. It's all live and dangerous, as it is now with us. We knew what we were doing in those days. We were very clear and we were very well oiled in a sense; we knew each other very well.'

Gary Wright Innovates For The Dream Weaver, InTheStudio.Net Explores Backstory Of Classic Album

Dallas, TX - August 28, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands speaks to keyboardist/synth pioneer Gary Wright about his hit 1975 album and single The Dream Weaver.

Robert Moog, the inventor of the electronic musical synthesizer, opened up a new frontier for popular music. Many artists have used the synth in modern recording, but in 1975 there was only one artist who took the power of the synthesizer to a whole new level.

Gary Wright was a young American in London who played keyboards for an otherwise British band Spooky Tooth (which included a pre-Foreigner Mick Jones).
Following the split of Spooky Tooth, Gary returned home to New Jersey and armed with a handful of songs, set off to make a solo album exclusively on electronic keyboard, organ and synthesizer for his third solo album, The Dream Weaver  .

Wright's bold move paid off with spectacular results from songs 'Love Is Alive', 'Made to Love You', 'Blind Feeling', 'Much Higher', 'Power of Love' (the only song to include electric guitar, courtesy of Ronnie Montrose) and the million-selling hit 'Dream Weaver'.

Gary shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard, the decisions he made in order to make The Dream Weaver.

'The whole sonic intent of the album was to have a lot of spaciousness in it, not a lot of instruments playing things. And everything that played something, to really make it count.'

The Classic Metal Show Now on iHeartRadio

August 28th, 2014 - Chicago, IL - The Classic Metal Show, the hard hitting uncensored radio program that's been taunting the airwaves since 1996, has officially launched a brand new channel on the internet's largest radio portal, iHeartRadio.

"We're surprised, but happy to have become part of iHeartRadio's platform," says THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW founder and host Neeley. "We ruffle a lot of feathers by saying whatever we think and not acknowledging anyone's "line".  I guess this just proves that we're touching people's real emotions and not just doing another fluff program."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW has seen incredible growth in the last two years.  In addition to it's large live following Saturday nights from 9pm-3am EST on the show's 24/7 online station, podcasts of the show on Spreaker (www.spreaker.com/user/cmsrocks) recently topped 400,000 downloads in that time.

"It's really amazing that anyone listens to our nonsense," show co-host Chris Akin says.  "We say whatever comes to mind, regardless of if it's about relationships, heavy metal, racism, current events.  Sometimes people like it. Other times they don't. But they keep on listening. It's really fun to be part of something growing so fast."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW is an all topical, completely uncensored radio show that tackles all topics.  While based in hard rock and heavy metal, the show regularly strays off to popular culture and recently began exploring many new avenues and topics.  Recently, the guys interviewed Michelle Kath, the daughter and documentarian of late Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, as well as the most notorious drug kingpin since Al Capone, Freeway Ricky Ross.  With their newfound exposure to millions of listeners on iHeartRadio, the show hopes to see still wider growth in the entertainment landscape.

"We have so many things coming up that it's hard to address them all," Akin concludes.  "With a TV show in the works, inclusion of our show on Spotify, and now this great new channel on iHeartRadio, it's safe to say that things are brighter than ever in our little dark corner of cyberspace."

THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW is heard live on Saturdays from 9pm-3am EST, and is available for podcast on a multitude of platforms.  All are available on their website, www.theclassicmetalshow.com.

Thank you,

Chris Akin

Highway To Hell 35th Anniversary Bittersweet for AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young InTheStudio

Highway To Hell  35th Anniversary Bittersweet for AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young InTheStudio

Dallas, TX - August 26, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the 35th anniversary of Highway to Hell, the breakthrough album and bittersweet end of the Bon Scott era for AC/DC.

In August 1979 a lot of North American rock music fans had no idea that Highway to Hell  was the Australian-based AC/DC's fifth studio album, and that their long-suffering U.S. record label was getting frustrated by the band's lack of sales.

Short on money but with a full tank of steely determination, armed with a demo tape containing Highway to Hell , the band found and secured a young South African producer named 'Mutt' Lange. Lead guitarist Angus Young recounts to InTheStudio host Redbeard:

'We actually had written most of the songs in a weekend for Highway to Hell... We snuck in the rehearsal studio...we put a tape together and sent it to Mutt Lange and he said, 'Look, I hear what you're trying to do. I'm sure I can do you a great job'.'

The result was a rock masterpiece complete with the title track 'Highway to Hell', 'Girl's Got Rhythm', 'Shot Down In Flames', 'If You Want Blood'  which all to quickly became rock classics. But as rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young recalls, tragically, colorful lead singer Bon Scott would only get to enjoy the worldwide success of Highway to Hell  (certified seven million sold in the US) for another eight short months.

'Bon was unlucky, he just happened to fall asleep with his head in the wrong position from a big night of drinking... Bon wasn't a rockstar like Jim Morrison. Bon was a rock and roller. He lived that lifestyle, he didn't act that lifestyle.'
