Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, Mick Mars Make House Call InTheStudio For 25th Anniversary Of Motley Crue's # 1 Album Dr. Feelgood

Dallas, TX - Oct 14, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands  celebrates the 25th anniversary of Motley Crue's 1989 #1 seller Dr. Feelgood.

The '80s was a decade of excess and Motley Crue was its poster child and willing participant.  Their reckless abandonment and debauchery has been well documented, but what makes the Motley Crue story so fascinating is that with all the increasing mayhem came an unbelievable string of hit songs and albums.

The Crue's 1987 album Girls, Girls, Girls was a #4 seller despite the band's drug and alcohol- fueled crazy existence, but eventually, one by one, the members of Motley Crue all found help for their substance issues. With the newly found clarity, the songs which Nikki Sixx composed and which singer Vince Neil, piledriver drummer Tommy Lee, and guitar monster Mick Mars recorded including 'Kickstart My Heart', 'Same Ol' Situation', 'Without You' and the groove thing 'Dr. Feelgood' blew every previous Motley Crue standard away, notching the # 1 album in America with over six million albums sold.

Sobriety didn't stop the party on the road though, but it did allow them to remember it! The Dr. Feelgood tour would become the band's biggest production ever,as Nikki Sixx tells InTheStudio host Redbeard.

'Dr. Feelgood tour, at the time 1989 ,(cost) $325,000 a week just to break even. A million two a month, and were gone for fifteen months. So we spent about $20 million just entertaining.  So anything after that was ours.  'Wow, you need a better business plan.  What's your exit strategy?  Pee in the corner and blow everything up'.' (laughs)

Episode 51 of One On One With Mitch Lafon features an exclusive chat with the L.A. KISS managing partner and co-owner, BRETT BOUCHY. This episode was co-hosted by Talking Metal's Mark Strigl.

In this episode's only interview, L.A. The show takes you inside the day-to-day dealings and drama of the L.A. KISS. From the early triumphant declarations that Los Angeles' newest team was championship bound to the quick realization that the team was going to need a lot of help to win even just one game. KISS' Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are not used to losing and being the owners of a 3-15 team (having lost their last six) seemingly did not sit well with them. AMC's 4th And Loud exposes their and the team's management frustrations. Catch all the tension, drama and decision making every Tuesday night at 10PM (9PM central) only on AMC

Metallica's James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett Take On Heavy Load, In The Studio

Dallas, TX - Sept 18, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands goes one on one with Metallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett for a refreshingly honest interview about Metallica's highly anticipated 1996 follow-up to the mega-selling 'Black Album'.

After nearly a decade of hard and fast, Metallica began the '90s with what amounted to be their Sgt. Peppers, their Back in Black. Fondly referred to as Metallica's 'Black Album',  the band experienced a new level of fame, raising the obstinate band's confidence level to DEFCON 4.  So what next?

The highly defiant band had in their own way already made significant steps towards their future, most importantly with the addition of producer Bob Rock for the 'Black Album'.  Songs like 'Ain't My Bitch', 'Until It Sleeps', 'King Nothing', 'Hero of the Day' and 'Bleeding Me' had a stronger sonic punch, a broader appeal than their early speed metal. But superstar success made Metallica a big target, and  Load was not without controversy. James Hetfield tells InTheStudio host Redbeard why Metallica has always been able to look past criticism about the group.

'We're not afraid to say we're selfish. We are here playing this stuff for ourselves, and it's always been that way...We're into having the nuts to go try something else.'

STEVE SMITH Talks New Book 'Roots Of Rock Drumming'

Artist:
Wednesday, September 17, 2014
Categories:

Former Journey Drummer Steve Smith was a recent guest on The FDH Lounge with Rick Morris to promote his new book,
"The Roots of Rock Drumming" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5oT3DftQ7E&list=UUgleHbQwuloA5Gkkhp_YXZw

Over 12 years in the making, Hudson Music proudly presents The Roots of Rock Drumming, a book/DVD package that takes a behind -the-scenes look at the origins of rock n roll drumming (1948-1965), told by many of the groundbreaking drummers who were there and took part in the creation of the music. This history is presented through the eyes of the players themselves, in detailed interviews with 22 of the men who invented rock drumming.

Featured drummers include Bobby Morris (Louis Prima), Dick Richards (Bill Haley and His Comets), Earl Palmer (Little Richard, New Orleans & LA studio), DJ Fontana (Elvis Presley), JM Van Eaton (Sun Records studio), Buddy Harman (Roy Orbison, Nashville studio), Jerry J.I. Allison (Buddy Holly and The Crickets), Hal Blaine (LA studio), Idris Muhammad (Curtis Mayfield, NY Studio), Sam Lay (Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chicago studio), Bernard Purdie (NY studio), Roger Hawkins (Muscle Shoals studio), Sandy Nelson (drum solo hits), and New Orleans stylists Smokey Johnson and John Boudreaux, along with British rock session players Brian Bennett, Bobby Graham, and Clem Cattini, followed by a younger generation of commentators who witnessed the rise of rock in their youth: Jaimoe, Carmine Appice, Steve Gadd, and Jim Keltner.

With interviews conducted by drumming great Steve Smith and Hudson Music founders Rob Wallis and Paul Siegel, and editing by noted drummer/historian Daniel Glass, this is easily one of the most important books on the history of drumming ever published. The included DVD contains excerpts from the actual interviews, and the text is presented in a coffee-table style with tons of rare photographs in a beautiful layout.

The included DVD contains nearly three hours of excerpts from the interviews, taking the viewer on an engaging, informative, funny, and sometimes poignant trip through the history of rock music. The full interviews will be made available online via hudsonmusic.com. It should be noted that this book contains no music notation, which makes it accessible to an even wider audience.

Aerosmith Pump, Second Jewel In Comeback Triple Crown, Turns 25, InTheStudio

Dallas, TX - September 9, 2014. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind Historys Greatest Rock Bands pumps up the volume with the 25th anniversary of Aerosmiths 1989 mega selling album Pump.

A three dimensional hard rock masterpiece, Pump delivered Aerosmiths deepest well of songwriting, blistering performance chops, and the most innovative production of any hard rock album to date, courtesy of the late Bruce Fairbairn.

Its blazing energy and cinematic presentation combined with unforgettable songs make Pump one of Aerosmiths biggest sellers (over 7+ million), producing three Top 10 hits Janies Got A Gun, Love In An Elevator, What It Takes and delivering the band its first Grammy Award.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard how protective the band is with the creative process in the studio.

A guy came in while we were recording, rehearsing this album, doing pre-production and he mentions, Well you gotta have an Angel, you gotta have a Dude, and we threw him out... When you look at it like that it becomes a business thing, plus it can tend to scare you half to death.

Pat Benatar 'Heats' Up 35 Years Of Hits On InTheStudio.Net

Dallas, TX - Sept 4, 2014.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands , celebrates the career of Pat Benatar with an extensive look back at the Eighties' biggest-selling female rocker on the 35th anniversary of her debut In the Heat of the Night .

Pat Benatar, born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski in Brooklyn New York, no doubt inherited her 4 1/2 octave voice from her mother who'd been in the chorus of the New York City opera. But at 19, Pat decided to forgo Julliard and opera and got married.
Her first big break would come as a cabaret singer at the club Catch a Rising Star, which would lead to a record deal and her first album, 1979's In The Heat Of The Night.

Pat and her musical director, guitarist/co-writer Neil Giraldo would go on to make '80s musical gold, including winning an unprecedented four Grammy Awards in a row for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1982 Pat and Neil would make their professional life personal, marrying in Hawaii.

Pat Benatar shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard what it was like being a breakout female rockstar in the early '80s with her record company pushing sex appeal while the Feminist Movement pushed back, with Benatar squeezed between them.

'It was an exciting time, but it was very confusing. Ten years down the road everybody figured out where to be and what's cool and what's not. It's not like today when all of us made mistakes and now people can look at us and say, 'Ok, we won't do what they did.'  That's the whole point of time passing. People now that come out get to see what not to do... We had no one, I had no one to look to.'

Queen Open Rock Time Capsule InTheStudio : Roger Taylor, Brian May Discuss Live At The Rainbow '74

Dallas, TX - September 3, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands takes the wrapper off Queen Live at the Rainbow '74, a rock time capsule of an embryonic band making the leap from London cult band to stadium filler.

Forty years ago when a young London quartet called Queen headlined the venerable Rainbow Theater there, recording the performance on audio and film was a daunting task, both technologically and financially. Live recording then was much more art than science, no do-overs, no digital tricks, nowhere to hide.

After two studio albums and a trial-by-fire legendary US tour supporting lovable Mott the Hoople, Queen was ready to reign over the Rainbow Theater, and in late March of 1974 they nailed it. The performance was so strong that the band would return in November of that year to play two more sold-out shows in support of their third album Sheer Heart Attack.

Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band's most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced.

'I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, 'These tracks are great!' I forgot that we were a really heavy band.'

Guitarist Brian May continues, 'There weren't any tricks to be had. It's all live and dangerous, as it is now with us. We knew what we were doing in those days. We were very clear and we were very well oiled in a sense; we knew each other very well.'
