Monday, January 12, 2015

The year 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of STATIC IMAGE, a melodic rock band based in the "Rhine-Main-Area" in Germany.

As a surprise to all band members for the first time lost and forgotten 30 year old live concert-footage was just recently digitally transferred and edited for a band-video celebrating the anniversary on YouTube with the bands favorite song "I Don't Just Wanna Dance“.

4 of the 5 Bandmembers are doing well and are located but the 5th bandmember the US-Singer of the band can´t be found. That's where we need YOUR help folks.

We need to track down vocalist Sean-Matthew Perry. His age must be now around 54 (+/-2 years) and could be located in Columbia Mo.

There was talk online somwhere that he might now be recovering from a stroke.

BONFIRE Announce New Album/Line-Up/Label/Management and 2015 Tour

Monday, May 18, 2015
BONFIRE Announce New Album / New Line-Up / New Label / New Management / and European Tour 2015
Hans Ziller - founder, guitarist, composer and mastermind of the band BONFIRE and Claus Lessmann (Vocals) have separated after nearly 30 years.

The band has not recorded a new studio album since 2011, although there was many internal calls and talk of recording a new Bonfire CD in 2014, it never materialized. Claus Lessmann just could not or would not start recording a new album and never gave any explanation to the band. So, why should this be the end of a nearly 3 decades-long success story?
Quote Hans Ziller
: "I originally formed the band under the name Cacumen in the early 80s, I then brought Claus Lessmann on board eight years later and we changed our name to BONFIRE. I think we simply owe it to our fans to go on. I see no reason to retire just because the lead singer of the band cannot or does not want to sing "and Hans continues:" Bonfire is my life's work, I can look back on the band in a variety of lineups and with many successful years, ECHO - nominations, Golden Record, countless concerts worldwide, more than 1 million records sold, and above all I want to stay loyal to our fans who stayed with us through the years. "
Anyone who knows Mastermind Hans Ziller cannot rest his head easy with this. In recent months Bonfire has composed many new songs and the new BONFIRE-Formation has found itself. With a partially new outfit of PAUL MORRIS (ex-Rainbow) for the keyboards.
Ronnie Parkes on the bass (former bassist Uwe Kohler pursues a solo project) . Of course, the familiar face of Bonfire drummer Harry Reischman is still there. A second guitarist is still being sought.
And finally the kicker: Ziller QUOTE: "David REECE (ex-Accept) will be the new singer. With David I share not only a total musical agreement, but also a personal friendship. After the many years of the band's internal conflicts, it was also important to me to have musicians around me I can trust and with whom it is fun to be on stage. To just play only the old songs and nothing new, fighting and arguing in the backstage area, is not what I want in my band. It is also dishonest to the fans and makes you sick in the long run and I just don't want that anymore. David Reece is a highly professional and an energetic singer who will revive the classic Bonfire songs.  Old and new members will add a spark to the old Bonfire sound while still remaining loyal to its roots."
Currently, the band is in the studio working on the new BONFIRE-album with producer Alessandro Del Vecchio.

The CD will be released in mid-May worldwide by 2015.

With new artist management and new concert agency, BONFIRE will go on a European tour in May.
The first BONFIRE shows will be headlining with special guests ELA and BATTLE BEAST also summer festivals abroad have already been confirmed.

The new album is a realized vision three plus decades in the making exhibiting world-class musicianship,
masterful arrangements, topical lyrical commentary, and melodies that the collective genius of Lukather,
Paich, Porcaro, Williams and their assembled band-mates bring to life. TOTO XIV is the band’s first
album of new material since 2006’s Falling In Between. However, the band personally considers the
new album to be the true follow-up to TOTO IV, which made the band global superstars.
Keyboardist Steve Porcaro reveals, "This is opposite of going through the motions. We are treating this
like it is Toto V, our follow-up to TOTO IV. We just want to be the best version of ourselves that we can
be. Be true to ourselves and make the best music we can. Entertain people which is what we were put on
this Earth for." Keyboardist David Paich reflects, "I think of TOTO as a unit and a band that carries a
responsibility when it goes out there in to the public consciousness. There is so much negativity and
darkness that I think you have to be as Quincy Jones puts it, 'beams of light that blast through the
As they began the process of a return the studio, all of the principle long-term members brought their Agame
to the table. Guitarist Steve "Luke" Lukather offers, "When you put us in a room, and everybody
brings in their pieces, the next thing you know it all fits together. Everybody's performances are top
notch. We are really bringing our best out, forcing ourselves to make personal best choices, what's best
for the music. I'm really excited to hear what people think." Singer Joseph Williams adds, "We are
talking about a band where everybody is a writer, and everybody is a lead singer, and everybody is a
player. All involved brought this trio to the table where it could just live on its own."
Founding bassist David Hungate returns to the fold, about whom Luke simply offers, "No one plays like
David Hungate." Drums were performed by Keith Carlock who's commitments to Steely Dan prohibit
him from participating in the 2015 World Tour. Shannon Forest will be behind the kit, who was a part
of the band's 2014 North American run. Luke offers, "Shannon is a world class drummer and we are
honored to have him back with us."
The sessions were co-produced by CJ Vanston, who Paich looks upon as, "everything a producer is
supposed to be and more - a musicians producer." Vanston states, "There have never been better
musicians on the planet, especially in a band together. This is an amazing record and I am completely
thrilled to be a part of it. This is a dream job for me." Porcaro offers an additional thought stating, "I
think the band is hit upon a very healthy creative tension for this project. I'm very excited about it." For
Williams he reflects, "Just imagine being able to stand on stage in front of enormous crowd of people, and
you are playing great music with the best musicians in the world, and you look around, and they are some
of your best friends in the world. It's the best feeling any person could have." For Porcaro he shares, "It
is kind of hard to find words of what it means to have a smile on your face to go to work every day and
we have the fans to thank for that - so thank you."
The band will hit the ground running with an extensive European headline arena tour with appearances at
key festivals. The itinerary begins in Glasgow on May 21, and takes Toto through the UK, France,
Luxembourg, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland,
Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Italy, and Belgium. Ticket sales came out of the box with strength,
with some appearances selling out within days of on-sale. A North American tour will follow in the
summer of 2015.
The band is also in the planning stages for their return to Asia later this year.
The last couple of years have been active, with a seven show sold-out tour of Asia that took them through
Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, Sendai and Sapporo in April 2014. Also that month, the 35th Anniversary Tour
- Live In Poland title was released, debuting at #1 in territories across the globe. Last August and
September, the band hit the road travelling across North America as co-headliners with Michael
McDonald, which when it was all said and done was their most comprehensive tour on the continent in
Historically, few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger
imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members’ imprint can be
heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a HALF A BILLION albums.
Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with 225 Grammy nominations. TOTO
sold 35 million albums, and today continue to be a worldwide arena draw staging standing room only
events across the globe. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70s bands that have endured the
changing trends and styles, and 35 plus years in to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base. It is not
an exaggeration to estimate that 95% of the world's population has heard a performance by a member of
Toto also continues to raise awareness for ALS, for their brother and friend, Mike Porcaro, who has been
diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. The band commits energies towards fundraising for Police
and Fire Departments of California and the Fallen Heroes initiative (, and
help the United Nations in their humanitarian endeavors through music.

Wife Of Drummer DAVID LAUSER Loses Battle With Cancer

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

RIP to Liza Lauser, wife of drummer David Lauser.

David posted this message online:

"I want to let you know that Liza passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 4th, 2015.

My daughter, Ella, her good friend, Lisa and I were at Liza’s side when she took her last breaths.

Although bed-bound, Liza was alert and spunky the day before. Later that day, she fell into a deep sleep around 5PM and never regained consciousness.

I feel my prayers were answered in that Liza was at home with family, was in no visible pain and that her passing was calm and not drawn out.

I will be planning a “Celebration Of Life” to honor Liza in Marin County and will be in communication regarding the date and location soon."

JEFF GOLUB (Rod Stewart, Billy Squier) Dies At Age 59

Monday, January 5, 2015
JEFF GOLUB (Rod Stewart, Billy Squier) Dies At Age 59 - R.I.P.
"Contemporary jazz, blues and rock guitarist Jeff Golub, who played alongside Rod Stewart and Billy Squier, died on Thursday, according to JazzTimes. He was 59.
Though the precise cause of death has not been confirmed, Golub had been battling a rare brain disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy that caused him to inexplicably lose his eyesight in 2011.
Over his career, Golub released 12 solo albums and three more as the leader of the instrumental band, Avenue Blue. He played alongside Stewart from 1988-1995, on four albums and five world tours.
Golub was born in 1955 in Copely, Ohio, and started playing guitar at an early age. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and joined singer James Montgomery's band while in Boston. He began working with Squier after moving to New York in 1980, and in 1988 released his first solo album, Unspoken Words, for Gaia Records.
He continued to play as a session musician for many pop and jazz artists, including Tina Turner, Vanessa Williams, Peter Wolf and Bill Evans, releasing a number of his own albums over the years.
Golub made the news in 2012, following his loss of eyesight, when he fell off a New York City subway platform onto the tracks ahead of an oncoming train, escaping narrowly with only minor injuries. The name of his final release, 2013's Train Keeps a Rolling, was inspired by that event.
A tribute concert for Golub featuring a number of his friends and collaborators will take place Jan. 21 at B.B. King's Blues Club in Manhattan, helping to raise funds on behalf of Golub and his family. Tickets are available here."

TONY HARNELL Quits TNT, Band Takes A Rest, But Will Return

Monday, January 5, 2015
Singer TONY HARNELL has quit TNT once again, giving fans the following heartfelt messageover the weekend:
"Hey friends,

This was an amazing year for me and for all the TNT fans who were lucky enough to be at the concerts. Many of the shows were the best TNT shows ever in my opinion.
Sadly it's not possible for me to continue with the band. I won't bore you with all the's nothing mind blowing and it's certainly nothing new and it's also best to respect the privacy of the band and keep our issues between us. At least that's my goal.
What I can tell you all is that I tried very hard once again to make it work for the long haul. I had really high hopes that it would last this time and that we would continue for years to come but it is a very volatile little machine. It's a really great band with a wonderful catalog of music and I'm proud of all the work we've done and all we've accomplished over the years. I love our crew and appreciate all their hard work and dedication. I wish the other guys in the band well in life and in all their future endeavors.
To the wonderful TNT fans...I know you feel deep disappointment right now and truly, so do I...more than you could ever know. My heart is broken, again, but I have no regrets about the past year and I'm really happy I could have such a wonderful final tour with the band for you guys. To all those who's cities we didn't reach, I apologize. It wasn't for lack of desire on my part to get to you this time.
Onward and upward! Love you all! TH
P.S. This is my statement, I won't elaborate..."
As for the band themselves, they have responded with an update of their own:
"Happy new year everybody! We hereby want to thank you, and everybody on & off stage for a great 2014 - celebrating 25 anniversary of the Intuition album and releasing the Anniversary album with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
Despite a great 2014 here was never any firm plans for TNT in 2015. The band & crew have worked hard since The Big Bang release in 2003. More than 10 years - actually longer than the first period in the the 80s!
TNT have always suffered challenging logistics. We envy band & crew who live in the same city  Traveling and being away from home can be hard for everybody. Especially for those who have to travel the longest and be the longest time away from their dear ones.
The only firm 2015 plans so far is that Ronni will continue promoting his recent solo album and will be gigging with Rypdal/Tekrø. Diesel will be doing some gigs with Tindrum featuring Kee Marcello.
The TNT heart have NOT stopped beating."
Concider it possible that TNT will rise again - sooner or later - in one way or another form.
The band are open for suggestions and comments - and for sure we will be in touch with YOU !

SOTO “Inside The Vertigo” January 30. Video For 'The Fall' Out Now

Sunday, December 21, 2014
The debut album "Inside The Vertigo" - OUT January 30th 2015
Order now! CD: | iTunes:

Jeff Scott Soto – one of today's premier Rock frontmen and vocalists – and a union of hotshot young musicians bring you a slamming blend of melody and muscle in some of the freshest power metal to surface in years present. Together they are SOTO, and their debut album “Inside The Vertigo” will blow your mind away. The album is going to be released January 30th, 2015 on earMUSIC.
A neurotic blend of power metal, prog, groove-laden huge guitars, hooks and production, SOTO is a contender in today's modern Rock arena while capturing the essence of strong songwriting simultaneously.

Jeff explains, ''I've been in the game for a long time but my roots started more on the heavier side of the tracks, I thought it was about time I came home to visit the family and stick around for a while!''.

The band is comprised of Jeff's most current solo band, who he insisted on making this musical merge with him. Jorge Salan (lead guitar), BJ (keys, guitars), David Z (bass) and Edu Cominato (drums). Soto adds, ''These guys come from different parts of the world and bring their own influence to make this band very special. From the US to Europe to South America, we have an exciting mix of style and prestige that keeps us all on our toes''.

Jeff adds, ''The past 5 or more years have propelled me a plethora of anger and frustration, I'm actually quite pissed off about a lot of things, SOTO is my outlet to release some of this pent up emotion. We realize there are a lot of folks young and old who may be sharing these thoughts so this is especially for them too. We're not reinventing the wheel here, we're just creating an outlet for where our hearts are both musically and mentally…I’m just not in a 'touch your golden hair' mood right now!''.

Songs like “Break”, “The Fall”, “Wrath”, “Narcissistically Yours” and “Final Say” are perfect vehicles of raw emotion. Songs like “When I'm Older”, “Karma’s Kiss”, to the title track “Inside The Vertigo” and the 9+ minute epic “End Of Days” advocate a modern day reality/wake-up call.

Produced by Jeff Scott Soto, the album features tracks co-written with his bandmates as well as a of his famous friends/colleagues. Collaborators include guitarists Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy), Jason Bieler (Saigon Kick), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob) and Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger/TSO), all of whom perform on their penned tracks for the album. Others appearing as guests/co-writers are Casey Grillo (Kamelot), Connor Engstrom, Tony Dickinson, Leo Mancini, Hugo Mariutti and Gary Schutt.

The album was recorded during the latter months of 2013 and mixed/mastered in Boston by Soto's long time engineer and friend John Ellis. ''Everyone from John to my amazing co-writers to some of my bandmates, especially Edu who was extremely instrumental on helping me stay on course musically, get overall credit for creating this album. I oversaw it as a whole knowing the vision I wanted to capture but I truly had a lot of help from my bros that appear on this masterpiece!'' exclaims Soto.

The release of the album intentionally coincides with the birth date of JSS’s fallen colleague and dear friend Marcel Jacob of Talisman. RIP.

Watch out for SOTO to follow up the release of “Inside The Vertigo” with extensive touring and appearances throughout 2015.

Friday, February 20, 2015
URIAH HEEP’s “Live at Koko, London 2014”: British Hard Rock legends better and stronger than ever on their “home” stages!
Out on Frontiers in February
Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of URIAH HEEP’s newest live album entitled “Live at Koko, London 2014” on February 20th 2015 in Europe and February 24th in North America.
In January 2011, the band returned to the studio to record “Into the Wild” and the band once again returned to the road for a worldwide tour. Playing to nearly 150,000 people, in Eastern Europe, Australia, Japan, and America and playing in 58 different countries in total. On March 4th 2014, Uriah Heep played in front of their “home” audience in London and performed an amazing show which was recorded in HD for a release in Double cd/dvd and, for the first time, on Blu-Ray.
“Recording a live DVD in London at Koko's was just fantastic. Our fans travelled from all over the world to be there, and be part of this magic night,” says Mick Box. “This added so much to the atmosphere, and thankfully it was captured on camera. We debuted two songs from our new CD, 'Outsider,' that night, and the reaction was just incredible, proving that we have the best fans in the world.”
Originally founded by vocalist David Byron and guitarist Mick Box, Uriah Heep has been through an incredible number of permutations, with Mick Box always at the helm. Long standing keyboard player Phil Lanzon and vocalist Bernie Shaw were recruited nearly 30 years ago in 1986. Drummer Russell Gilbrook who has now been with the band 7 years, has recorded studio albums “Wake the Sleeper”, “Into the Wild” & “Outsider”. “Wake the Sleeper” heralded an exciting new phase for the band, taking Heep’s classic sound right into the future. The band celebrated its 40th anniversary with an aptly titled greatest hits re-recordings album called “Celebration”. Dave Rimmer, who had been standing in for Trevor Bolder (ex-David Bowie's Spiders From Mars), continues as the bassist, with the band’s diary for the foreseeable future as full as ever.
“Live at Koko, London 2014” track listing includes:
CD1 : Against The Odds; Overload; Traveller In Time; Sunrise; Stealin’; I’m Ready; Between Two Worlds; Can’t Take That Away; One Minute; Nail On The Head.

LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM Announce 'Level Eleven' European Release

Friday, February 20, 2015
Last Autumn’s Dream - Level Eleven
Release Date: 20.02.2015

Label: AOR Heaven

Mikael Erlandsson from Gothenburg is one of the best singers/ songwriters in Sweden today. Beside LAD he has since 2006 been the front man in the Swedish super group Secret Service on live tours all over the world.

He has recorded four successful solo albums and his Japanese record company together with XTC Productions came up with the idea of putting him together with the fantastic guitar player Andy Malecek from the successful German hard rock band Fair Warning for an album project.

Mikael and Andy were both hooked by the idea and a plan for the album began to grow. Ian Haugland, Mic Michaeli and John Leven of Europe-fame were asked if they were interested to join, which they did and the band LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM was born!

Their self titled debut album resembled the best Scandinavian melodic rock heritage, but also added a distinctive Fair Warning influence coming from Malecek’s guitar playing.

The band lost 3/5's of their members due to the comeback of Europe. So from their second album great musicians like bassist Marcel Jacob (Talisman) tragically died and was replaced by Nalley Påhlsson (Treat, Therion) and finally drummer Jamie Borger (Talisman, Treat, Secret Service) joined the band.

Andy Malecek unfortunately decided to leave the band in 2014 because of personal reasons and is now replaced by Peter “Pac” Söderström, a genius guitar player that earlier used to add rhythm guitars to the band’s previous albums.

Album number 11 “Level Eleven” will be released in Japan in December 2013 and in Europe in February 2013 and proposes as usual the combination of classic rock references with modern sound.

All albums recorded at XTC Studios in Stockholm. Executive producer Ulf Wahlberg (Secret Service).

Track list: 1. Kiss Me, 2. Follow Your Heart, 3. Fight The World, 4. I’ll B There 4 U, 5. Losing You, 6. Go Go Go - Get Ready For The Show, 7. Delirious, 8. Made Of Stone, 9. Stick Around, 10. Star, 11. PLZ (+ hidden track)

LEAH "Kings & Queens" Album Teaser Posted Online

Thursday, December 18, 2014

The symphonic metal artist LEAH just released an album teaser video for her up-coming album "Kings & Queens" that will be released on January 30th in Europe and on February 3rd in North America through Inner Wound Recordings.

Link to the video:

Featuring musicians such as Timo Somers and Sander Zoer of Delain, and Barend Courbois of Blind Guardian and Vengeance, this 14-track masterpiece emerges as the heaviest of all her releases. Dabbling in worldly Celtic, middle eastern, and New-Age flavors, while lyrically laced with epic imagery of dystopias, fallen empires, spiritual warfare, love and destiny, this album proves to be very promising and is expected to be received by fans and critics as one of the top symphonic metal albums of the year.

The artwork for "Kings & Queens" was created by Jan Yrlund at Darkgrove Design [Delain, Apocalyptica, Sirenia]

LEAH about the new album:

"Kings & Queens is an important album to me, as the songs cover a range of emotions, musical styles and lyrical themes. One theme in particular is the historical and metaphorical grip around our throats we feel from top-down agendas that threaten our freedoms. It seems to be a never-ending game of chess between those who demand power and those who would preserve freedom. It's the theme of every good fantasy book and film, and the message rings true for even our modern world. In addition, the the line-up and stellar musicianship of the guys who came on board this project heightened the sheer epicness and caliber of the music itself... This has been my most enjoyable and rewarding project to date."

BOWLING FOR SOUP Announce Greatest Hits Album

Thursday, December 18, 2014
Bowling For Soup Announce Greatest Hits Album
"Songs People Actually Liked  Volume 1 The First 10 Years (1994-2003)"
Texan punk rock titans Bowling For Soup have shared a journey that spans two decades!

That's 20 years of laughter and smiles but most of all, infectious song writing, hard rocking tunes and the best live shows you’re ever likely to witness! Bowling For Soup have come a long, long way (and drunk quite a few beers) since forming in the small town of Wichita Falls, Texas, back in 1994. They have spread their enigmatic musical net all over the planet; giving millions of fans a taste of that Lone Star State fun.  A few years ago, Bowling For Soup got dropped from their record label. Less than a few weeks after this happened, “The Man” released a BFS GREATEST HITS on their own. They did not consult the band OR the fans on song selection, art workNoothing! In fact, Bowling For Soup didn’t even know the album existed until months later.

The band decided it was time for them to take matters in to their own hands, and to do it right! They started by making a list of all their singles, fan favourites, and songs that set Bowling For Soup apart from the rest...and boy the list was HUGE! So, they decided to take the first 10 years of their career...and re record it!

And so Bowling For Soup: Songs People Actually Liked Volumee 1 The First 10 Years (1994-2003) was born. The band have&nnbsp;not REDONE any of the songs. No rearranging. No lyric changes. But they first started recording 20 years ago, and really wanted a chance to bring their older material to life (not to mention the fact that they sorta know how to play their instruments now)!
Bowling For Soup: Songs People Actually Liked Volume 1 – The First 10 Years (1994-2003) is seventeen classic Bowling For Soup songs from the first 10 years of their band including their breakthrough worldwide hit single Girl All The Bad Guys Want, re-recorded to bring them the glory they deserve, plus one brand new original song!

Jaret Reddick comments:

It's been so cool to hear these songs come to life again and all in one place. It's amazing what 20 years of playing, singing and technology can do. Everything just sounds amazing!

A lot can change in 25 years. Countless fashion trends have come and gone. The Soviet Union ceased to exist. MTV stopped playing music videos. People began to explore a whole new universe called "the internet", and a forgotten album by a group called China Sky became a cult classic.
With its soaring melodies, lush harmonies and flawless production, China Sky seemed destined to be a rock classic from the word go. Grammy winning Bee Gees producer Karl Richardson headed up a production team that also featured celebrated composer Frank Wildhorn, and a young Bob Marlette, who later went on to work with Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Seether, Shinedown, and dozens of others. How could it go wrong? All of the pieces appeared to be in place: the players, the producers, the music, the management, the record label… Upon release, the album's first single, "The Glory," immediately began to receive radio airplay all over the US and Canada. Records were flying off the shelves in Europe and Japan. Derek Oliver raved in Kerrang Magazine. When the second single, "Some Kind Of Miracle," was released, more and more radio stations began to add China Sky.
Success seemed just around the corner, but six weeks later the band China Sky was no more.
Just what happened was never completely clear to anyone, it happened so quickly and members of China Sky decided to cut their losses and bail out, leaving the promise of everything for which they had worked so hard unfulfilled.
Guitarist Bobby Ingram went on to join Jacksonville southern rock outfit Molly Hatchet. Singer Ron Perry spent fifteen years recording and touring with his band, The Ron Perry Connection. Bassist Richard Smith did studio work and played with several popular regional bands in the southeast. No one looked back. China Sky became a distant, painful memory marked with the scars of what might have been… until sometime in the late 2000s, when Perry began to receive strange emails. Requests for China Sky pictures, CDs, and memorabilia started to become an increasingly regular occurrence. Collectors started to inquire about unreleased China Sky material. "I thought it was a friend pulling pranks," said Perry, about the renewed interest in a band that had been all but forgotten by its original members, “But the messages kept coming in from all over the world.” People started posting China Sky songs on the internet and they were racking up tens of thousands of hits. "The ball just started rolling on its own," chuckles bassist Richard Smith, "and there was no getting out of the way." With the resurgence in popularity of what is now called "Melodic Rock" in Europe, Japan, and South America, Perry and Smith began to sense an opportunity to finally bring the early promise of China Sky to full fruition. The pair decided the time was right to take what they had started a quarter century earlier and make it right. That haunting feeling of having important unfinished business needed to be addressed. China Sky would be re-born.
New guitarist Steve Wheeler was hired he seemed the natural choice for China Sky. The pieces were starting to come together, but things were not yet complete. Drummer Bruce Crump was next to join, a seasoned veteran with numerous gold and platinum records to his credit, Crump spent 15 years pounding the skins in southern rock band Molly Hatchet, with whom China Sky shared management in the 80’s. By 1988, Hatchet’s original members had pretty much had enough, and with the end of that situation looming, Crump actually did a few rehearsals with China Sky amid talk of joining the band. Management, however, wanting to squeeze every last dime out of Molly Hatchet, talked him out of it. Now, with the re-birth of China Sky, it seemed the next logical step would be for the boys to put in a call to their old friend Bruce, who, as it turned out, was itching to get involved in a serious project, and was quick to come on board. It was a perfect fit, but there was still one piece of the puzzle missing.
"Keyboards were an essential part of the China Sky sound in the 80s. They provided the atmosphere and the ambience that made for such a rich sonic landscape," says Richard Smith. "We couldn't trust just anyone with such an important component of our music." The search was on for a keyboardist who could tie the whole package together. After much networking, scouting, and a couple of disastrous auditions, guitarist Steve Wheeler remembered a Scottish piano player with whom he had played a few pickup gigs. Tim McGowan was a crack keyboardist and an actual China Sky fan. "From the very first time we played with him, we knew he was the guy," said Wheeler. McGowan had played with several popular bands all over Europe, and had etched out a respectable solo career in the world of New Age instrumental music, having released no less than twelve albums of original material. It seemed he was, indeed "the guy."
With all of the pieces firmly in place, China Sky has entered the studio to begin production of their second album. Ron Perry sums it up: "Being back in China Sky feels as comfortable as putting on an old pair of sneakers. We're incredibly lucky to have an opportunity to go back and set things right. We feel the new material is better than anything on the first album, and we're incredibly excited about taking the band in the direction we had originally intended. We are in control of everything this time, and that makes all the difference".  A lot can change in 25 years!

RANDY BACHMAN New Project 'Bachman’s Heavy Blues' Drops April 15

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Guest soloists include: Neil Young, Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph and Peter Frampton

The man known as the “architect of Canadian rock n’ roll” is forging ahead into 2015 with a brand new project billed simply as BACHMAN. Joined by a virtuoso rhythm section with Anna Ruddick on bass and Dale Anne Brendan on drums, the trio’s debut effort entitled Heavy Blues will be available worldwide on April 15, 2015 through Linus Entertainment.

Heavy Blues draws from the unlikely trio’s love of classic 60s blues rock and emerges with a blistering sound, a fierce and fearless collection of BACHMAN originals. Featuring an enviable list of Randy Bachman’s contemporaries including Neil Young, Joe Bonamassa, Robert Randolph and the late Jeff Healey, each musician contributes their signature-style guitar solos blending classic blues and rock with a modern undertone.

Produced by internationally-acclaimed producer Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Rush, Led Zeppelin), Heavy Blues marks the rare occasion that Randy Bachman has relinquished the producer reins. “'I’ve known Kevin for many years and watched his producer credits grow to include many rock legends,” explains Randy Bachman. “I knew that he could push me past my limit, pull me onto new paths and direct me down new roads. The collaboration, paired with Dale Anne and Anna’s musical ferocity, has made this entire project an amazing experience for me.”

A legendary figure in the rock n’ roll world, Randy Bachman has earned over 120 gold and platinum album/singles awards around the world for performing and producing. As the co-founder and principal songwriter for The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Randy Bachman’s monstrous hits, including “American Woman,” “Looking Out for #1,” “Let It Ride,” Taking Care of Business,” and “No Sugar Time,” have garnered him the coveted #1 spot on radio playlists in over 20 countries and he has amassed over 40 million records sold.

Randy Bachman has been awarded Order of Canada, ASCAP’s Global Impact honour, Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville, and received two separate inductions into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
