SONS OF APOLLO LOUDLY RING IN THE NEW DECADE WITH
THE APPROPRIATELY-TITLED NEW ALBUM, “MMXX,”
DUE OUT JANUARY 17 ON INSIDEOUTMUSIC/SONY;

MMXX WORLD TOUR” BEGINS JANUARY 24 IN POMONA, CA

November 6, 2019 -- SONS OF APOLLO--former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force)--are ready to ring in the new decade with a sonic boom with their second studio album, appropriately titled, MMXX (pronounced: 20/20).

Produced by The Del Fuvio Brothers (Portnoy and Sherinian), MMXX will be released on January 17, 2020 via InsideOutMusic/Sony as a standard CD package, Limited Edition 2 CD package (which includes instrumental mixes and a cappella excerpts), 2 LP + CD package, and on all digital formats. Pre-orders for all formats will be available starting November 15, which will include an instant download of the album’s first single, “Goodbye Divinity,” on iTunes and Amazon.

A teaser trailer was released on Inside Out’s official YouTube page:

“Stylistically, we have followed the same path as the debut,” outlines drummer Mike Portnoy. “But we feel that it has come out stronger, simply because we know one another better. PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY was the first time the five of us had worked together, so there was bound to be an air of experimentation happening. Now, we can draw on having the experience not only of recording that album, but also of touring together a lot. And now there is clearly a lot more obvious chemistry going on.”

“We did 83 shows on the last tour,” adds keyboardist Derek Sherinian. “And it was so worthwhile, because we came out of it with a stronger bond, and that is certainly reflected in what we wrote.”

The writing process began at the start of the year, as Portnoy, Sherinian and guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal got together. “The three of us were at my home studio in Pennsylvania,” explains Portnoy. “And it took about three weeks to get all the music written. That was a very smooth process. The last time, it certainly must have felt a little weird for Bumblefoot to be writing with Derek and me, because we were strangers to him. Now, we know one another better and that helped things push along.”

“Because we all have our home studios, it meant everyone could record there as and when they had opportunity,” continues Sherinian. “We all had the luxury of being able to take our time to get all the parts done, which was a huge help in the way the album's come out. I suppose in all, it took about eight months to record everything.”

The lyrics were written by Soto, who also came up with the melody lines with input from Sherinian. “While Jeff was left to come up with the words on his own, as the melody lines are part of the music, it made sense for me to be involved with that part,” says the keyboard player.

There are eight tracks on MMXX, with variations in length totalling 60 minutes. “The final song is 'New World Today, which is 16 minutes long,” says Portnoy. “This one has elements similar to 'Opus Maximus' and 'Labyrinth' on the previous album. It has some insane, brilliant instrumental moments, which I am sure the fans will love.”

“We wanted to do something epic here, as we did with 'Opus Maximus' last time around,” adds Sherinian. “You have to remember that Mike and I come from Dream Theater, where we never bothered about how long a song was. So, for us doing a 16 minute track is not a problem.”

The album title was inspired by a simple chronological fact. “This will be released in mid-January 2020,” says Portnoy. “That means it will be one of the first releases in what is a new decade. So I came up with the idea of calling it '2020,’ except having it written in the Latin form of 'MMXX'.” And the album’s artwork has been created by Thomas Ewerhard (who was responsible for the cover design of PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY), which inevitably reflects the title. As Portnoy explains, “For the first record, we had a mythological feel. This time around though, there's a much more futuristic style to what we've got. It has a very 21st century appeal. And the band crest is more polished, cleaned up and a lot more modern than last time, when it had an old fashioned look.”

“Each member of this band has their own signature sound on their instrument,” adds Sherinian. “And when you put all of this together what you get is a wonderful five-headed beast. It makes this a sonically special band, which is definitely what comes across on MMXX. You can hear odd time signatures and amazingly crazy performances here. Overall, we've been satisfyingly more adventurous this time than we were before, and I know people are sure to love what we've done.”

SONS OF APOLLO have certainly enriched the music sphere since their formation in 2017. It says much that the huge talent involved immediately combined with a cohesive and recognizable individual stance on their #1 debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, acknowledged as one of the finest releases in '17. Praised by Loudwire as an “...impressive debut disc,” it was released October 20, 2017 via InsideOutMusic/Sony. It debuted on Billboard’s “Heatseeker” chart at #1, as well as at #10 on the “Rock Chart,” and #33 on the “Top Current Albums” chart.

PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY picked up rave reviews upon its release, and got them a nomination at the Progressive Music Awards 2018 for Best International Band:

“Fuck the term ‘supergroup’, that’s not what this is about. SONS OF APOLLO are simply a group that are super.” – Classic Rock

PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY is fierce, loud, bewildering, brilliantly performed and monstrously entertaining.” – Prog Magazine

“…PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, truly lives and dies by the instrumentation, which by all involved is next level…At first listen you would be remiss not to draw comparisons from previous works of all involved, though SONS OF APOLLO is not defined by past triumphs. Rather, they represent the bridging of common attractions, with the end result being an album that is fresh and daring.” – Outburn

In touring news, the band’s headlining “MMXX World Tour” will launch January 24 in Pomona, CA and will take them around the world throughout the new year. Tickets are on sale now.

FRONTIERS ANNOUNCES THE SIGNING OF ARCHON ANGEL
FEATURING ZAK STEVENS ON LEAD VOCALS
DEBUT ALBUM "FALLEN" OUT EARLY 2020
EXCLUSIVE LIVE PREMIERE OF BAND TO HAPPEN AT 70000 TONS OF METAL 2020

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the signing of Archon Angel to the label's rapidly expanding metal roster. The band's debut album, "Fallen" will be released in early 2020, with a music video for the title track and pre-orders for the album launching on December 4, 2019. The band will make their exclusive live premiere on the 2020 edition of the popular 70000tons of Metal Cruise in January. Full cruise details here: https://70000tons.com/

A new band project born from a meeting between producer/guitar player Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere) and former Savatage and Circle II Circle vocalist Zak Stevens Circle II Circle during the making of Timo Tolkki's Avalon's 'Return To Eden' album, of which Aldo produced and played guitar and Zak did some guest lead vocals. The two soon started talking to Frontiers about the concept of working on new music together, which was met with great enthusiasm from the label. Aldo submitted to Zak some song ideas which were reminiscent of the classic Savatage sound of records such as “Edge Of Thorns” and “Gutter Ballet”. The two felt the magic was there, so no time was wasted in getting together to craft an absolutely striking metal album.

Zak Stevens tells the story of how everything came together: "Aldo Lonobile of Secret Sphere was producing the 'Return to Eden' (Timo Tolkki's Avalon) album and that's how we originally met in 2018. He contacted me by email and together we chose the two songs I would be singing on. Right away, it was super easy working with Aldo and we thought very much alike as far as music and production are concerned. And now, here we are today as bandmates in Archon Angel and playing together on the debut album, "Fallen"!"

"For Archon Angel, we pretty much started all the songs from scratch,” continues Zak. "Aldo had quite a few songs demoed to get things started with and we just went from there. He's an amazing guitarist and I was more than impressed with everything he did. From there, everyone got involved. The band guys in Italy (Aldo - Guitars, Marco Lazzarini - Drums, and Antonio Agate - Keys) and in France (my old friend Yves Campion from the band Nightmare on bass) helped Aldo with the instrumentation. I worked on vocal melodies with Aldo, along with my wife Katherine Stevens, who is a is very creative writer in her own right. She helped Aldo and I with some amazing lyrical contributions and with the overall concept stuff for the album.”

"Zak had a huge impact on my musical background: he has a unique vocal tone and the milestone albums he recorded with Savatage are among my all time favourite albums,” adds Aldo Lonobile. "When Frontiers gave me the chance to work with him during the production of the latest Timo Tolkki’s Avalon Metal Opera "Return To Eden" I was very excited and everything has been super easy. I am very proud of the music we wrote together and we are a great team, stay tuned for more news!"

Aldo was also helped in the songwriting department by some of the most outstanding writers and musicians from the Italian Rock scene including Simone Mularoni (of DGM and Sweet Oblivion) and Alessandro Del Vecchio (Aldo’s bandmate in Edge of Forever and of course Jorn, Hardline, etc.).

The album itself deals with a central character, the "Archon", who is a modern day angel figure. The idea goes back to the religious system of Gnosticism. The only difference is that we are immersing the Archon's story into modern-day times. The Archon is a medium who brings messages to God (Demiurge) from the people of Earth. The only real concept to the albums is that they simply follow the story and life and times of the modern day "Archon" and his life as he is called upon to protect the people of earth through frightening, turbulent times.

Archon Angel are currently working on booking some live shows to present the band in the live environment, but their exclusive live premiere will happen at the 2020 edition of the 70000 Tons Of Metal Cruise. After recent additions such as Devin Townsend and Sortilège to the line-up that already features names like Emperor, Epica and Wintersun, 70000 TONS OF METAL, The Original, The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise, is excited to announce another world premiere event on board, namely the very first live show by Zak Stevens’ new project Archon Angel. Whoever has been following 70000 TONS OF METAL, The Original, The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise, over the past 9 years, does not only know that it is much more than just another festival at sea. They will also know that one of the things that make it such a unique once in a lifetime event is that even now, only 2 months before the Independence Of The Seas will take 3000 metalheads and 60 world class heavy metal bands from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Cozumel, Mexico, from January 7th to 11th, for Round 10, the Skipper and his crew always manage to surprise fans with specials - including one time performances, album and band anniversaries, unexpected jam band constellations, and other premieres exclusively happening on board.

If Savatage are a favorite of yours, then Archon Angel's "Fallen" may well be your album of the year!

RAINIUM Launch Debut Album Featuring MICHAEL VOSS

Artist:
Categories:

Just in time for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the debut album “Sounds Of Berlin” by the German-British hard rock band RAINIUM will be released.

With Michael Voss, band founder and guitarist Rainer Krenzke has brought on board top-class support for the vocal part and the studio work.  Michael Voss is known as frontman of Mad Max, Casanovo, ex-Bonfire, band projects like Wolfpakk, Rock Wolves, Phantom 5 and as producer of Michael Schenker.

Solo and lead guitar is played by Brit Jay Parmar, who has made a name for himself with his Dokken and George Lynch tributes and has worked as a tour and studio guitarist with bands such as Eden’s Curse, Iron Knights and The Inner Road. The bass player is Marco Tardanico, currently also bassist of the power metal band ELA.

WHY “SOUNDS OF BERLIN”?

Rainer: “The album is a tribute to my hometown and tells my own story. But above all it’s a hardrock album with all the influences of my heroes of the big bands of the 80s and 90s, played here and now. It rocks very straight and yet very versatile. In Sounds Of Berlin hard guitar riffs meet techno beats, earthy rock numbers meet acoustic guitar sounds.  But don’t be fooled - it always goes right to the point! Crank up the volume!”
