AC/DC OFFICIALLY END SPECULATION: AC/DC has announced that rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young will be "taking a break" from the band he co-founded 40 years ago to address an illness that lead singer Brian Johnson described earlier this week as "debilitating." "Malcolm would like to thank the group's diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support," the statement on the band's Facebook page reads. "In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family's privacy be respected during this time."
The statement made sure to add that "the band will continue to make music."
Young's absence will be felt, both on stage and in the record-making process. The 61-year-old guitarist and his younger brother Angus are the band's core songwriters, and Malcolm deserves credit for providing the riffs that are the backbone of the group's primal brand of bluesy hard rock.
In an interview with the U.K.'s Telegraph, Johnson confirmed that the band will enter a Vancouver recording studio next month to work on new songs. "We're going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas," he said. "If anything happens, we'll record it."
Without naming Malcolm Young, Johnson said in the same interview that one of the band's members was not well. "One of the boys has a debilitating illness, but I don't want to say too much about it," he said. "He is very proud and private, a wonderful chap. We've been pals for 35 years and I look up to him very much."
Earlier this year, Johnson predicted that AC/DC would eventually launch a 40-date tour to commemorate the group's 40th anniversary. Despite Young's departure, Johnson is still hopeful they can pull it off. "That would be a wonderful way to say bye bye," he said. "We would love to do it. But it's all up in the air at the moment."
Reports surfaced Monday in the group's native Australia that the quintet was on the verge of announcing its retirement due to one band member's serious illness. But insiders told Billboard a day later that there was no truth to the rumor. The group's management and Columbia Records, its current label, declined requests for comment.

A little further info on those new preview tracks: Adrenaline Rush “Change” (Erik Mårtensson/Miqael Persson)
Featuring the stunning Tåve Wanning as front-woman, Adrenaline Rush are the newest sensation of the Swedish Melodic Hard Rock scene. Under the direction of producer and songwriter Erik Martensson, the band has recently finished the recording their debut album: a superb mix or melodies, energy and pure R'n'R attitude! Their debut album is planned for a release in late August.
Moon Land “Heaven Is to Be Close to You” (Alessandro Del Vecchio)
Lenna Kuurmaa is a 360° artist, singer and actress. Born in Estonia, Lenna has been the frontwoman of the Pop-Rock sensation Vanilla Ninja. Lately she started a solo career in her country. The Moon Land project sees her coming back to Melodic Rock with a musical style mostly akin to Heart and Europe. The debut album will be released in the fall of 2014.
Dalton “Hey You” (Bo Lindmark, Anders Lindmark, Ola Lindström, Leif Westfahl, Mats Dahlberg, Anders Livåg. Text: Mikael Larsson)
Put together in 1985 by the former Treat drummer Mats "Dalton" Dahlberg, Dalton released two classic Swedish Melodic Hard Rock albums: "The Race Is On" (1987) and "Injection" (1989), before disbanding in the early 90's. Now some 20 years later the magic is back and you can enjoy the first cut off the forthcoming album “Pit Stop” planned for a release in the fall.
M.I.M. “On My Own” (Christofer Björk, Linus Blad)
M.I.M. (standing for “More IS More” – the forthcoming debut album title) is another super-hot Melodic Rock newcomer from Sweden featuring Chris Bjork, Jimmy Claeson, Linus Blad, Rickard Bonde and Kristian Larsen. Their sound is going to take by surprise all the Melodic Rock fans mixing influences from Bon Jovi and Toto and this song shows all the potential (though vocals on this exclusive version are performed by David Fremberg of Andromeda).

KIX SIGNS WITH LOUD & PROUD RECORDS; FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 19 YEARS DUE:
April 16, 2014 -- Look for Kix-- Steve Whiteman (lead vocals), Jimmy Chalfant (drums, vocals), Ronnie Younkins (guitars), Brian Forsythe (guitars) and Mark Schenker (bass)to release their first new album in almost two decades on July 22, thanks to their new partnership with Loud & Proud Records. What makes the project even more exciting and anticipated is that the album features the band's original line-up, with the exception of Schenker on bass. “The boys and I are so happy that our old friend, Tom Lipsky, has invited us to join the Loud & Proud family,” exclaims Whiteman. “We worked with Tom and Madelyn Scarpulla on our last studio album, Show Business, and we're looking forward to working with them again with the release of the first new Kix album in almost 19 years! We'll still be coming to a dump near you very soon!”
Loud & Proud Owner & President Tom Lipsky adds, “What I have always loved about Kix is they make rock 'n roll fun. What I love about their new music is that it's pure, genuine Kix music, straight up guitar rock with no compromise. They're not chasing trends or trying to re-invent themselves. They're simply doing what they do best...and now they can do it Loud and Proud!”
Marking the re-emergence of Kix in early-2000's, the band had teamed up a few times a year to test the waters with reunion shows in the Maryland/Pennsylvania, which were very well received. Then in the summer of 2008, Kix performed outside the mid-Atlantic for the first time in 13 years at two of the biggest rock festivals in the U.S. Rocklahoma in Pryor, OK and Rock the Bayou in Houston, TX. The band was hailed by many music websites and attendees as “Best Performance” at both festivals, where they played alongside Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Tesla, Queesryche, Ratt, and more.
As the demand for new music has never subsided and in fact has only increased over the last few years, the band decided that they can no longer ignore the overtures from their fans and are currently recording new KIX songs. The new album, due out summer 2014, is produced by Taylor Rhodes, who last worked with Kix on 1991's Hot Wire album. Rhodes has also written hit songs for Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne and Journey.
Stay tuned for new album news, which will be announced in the coming weeks, and check out KIX on tour at any of the following stops (with more to be announced soon):
FOREIGNER'S DOOR OPEN TO GRAMM:
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Mick Jones revealed that the first new songs by him and co-founding Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm in 20 years might hit the public next year. The pair's June 2013 performance of "I Want To Know What Love Is" and "Juke Box Hero" at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in New York City marked the first time the pair has performed together in a decade after Gramm left Foreigner for a second time.
Jones has rekindled a relationship with Gramm, and revealed to Classic Rock magazine, that the duo, who wrote most of Foreigner's classic hits together, might be teaming up one more time, explaining, "Lou told me a few weeks ago he's discovered a few songs we were writing in the '80s, but never quite finished. We might take time next year to bring a couple of those out of the vaults. . . It's a question of wading through them and finding a cassette machine to play them on."
When asked if a reunion — which would sideline current lead singer Kelly Hansen — would be unfair, Jones was quick to point out: "Kelly has dedicated everything to the band. He's phenomenal. So anything I do will be sensitive to that. If Lou and I do something, it'll be inclusive. No way will he replace Kelly.”
Jones was asked what shape a Lou Gramm / Kelly Hansen Foreigner show might take, and he explained, "Something special where the old members can be involved. That would be cool. But nothing in the immediate future."
Mick Jones told The Pulse Of Radio that upon forming Foreigner in 1976, he knew that Lou Gramm would prove to be invaluable with a signature voice — with the songwriting chops to match. "I knew he had written, he was a writer too, and always felt that, y'know, it was important that the singer in any band had something to do with, [laughs] obviously, creating the songs, 'cause they're gonna sing them," he said. "Lou came up with some great titles; I think 'Head Games', I think 'Hot Blooded', too. And he developed into a really good writer." Foreigner kicks off its joint tour with Styx and special guest, former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, on May 14, in Wichita, Kansas at the Intrust Bank Arena.
(As posted to Blabbermouth...).
FATAL SMILE - R.I.P.: Fatal Smile's Mr. Y announces the demise of the band:
"At some point in your life you'll have to 'kill your darlings'...and it's with a heavy heart I have to inform you that I'm laying my dear band Fatal Smile to rest...in peace!
I sure know it's a really bad timing with a new album to be released & we just kicked off our first show of the tour last nite & really sorry for letting the fans down that have bought tickets for the shows...
But at a certain point in life you'll have to make decisions if things are really worth doing it...?? I have come to that point when the answer is no, it's no longer worth sacrificing everything in my life, my heart & soul just to keep the 'FS-train' rolling...It's been an epic journey since I started the band back in 1995 & I had a blast doing it & 'living the dream'...
A million thanks to all of you for your endless support & love during those 'Fatal years' & thanks to all the band members during this time...I will sure keep writing & playing music, that's for sure!!!
Also the new album & last Fatal Smile album "White Trash Heroes" will be released as planned on April 25. A few signed copies of the album & 'special packages' is still available for pre-orders at: gmrmusic.bigcartel.com/artist/fatal-smile.
Take care & be well...Peace & Love, Yaksel Unutmaz aka 'MR. Y' / 'Yxan'.

TOM PETTY SPREADS FULL MOON FEVER 25 YEARS AGO: INTHESTUDIO CELEBRATES ALBUM'S ANNIVERSARY:
Dallas, TX - April 16, 2014. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the highly contagious music of Tom Petty's 1989 solo masterpiece Full Moon Fever on its 25th anniversary.
Two things happened after Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 7th album Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) that would signal the next phase in Petty's illustrious music career. First, the band toured as Bob Dylan's live band. Second, while on tour, Petty would meet and become friends with ex-Beatle George Harrison and producer, former ELO founder Jeff Lynne, setting in motion the supergroup of Dylan, Harrison, Orbison, Lynne and Petty named The Traveling Wilburys.
In between the tours with Dylan and The Traveling Wilburys recording Tom Petty, with the help of producer/songwriter Jeff Lynne, would find magic recording his first solo album, his most successful album ever with hits, “Free Fallin'”, “I Won't Back Down”, “Love is a Long Road”, “A Face in the Crowd”, “Yer So Bad”, “Runnin' Down a Dream” and the Byrd's tribute “Feel A Whole Lot Better”.
Petty recalls to InTheStudio host Redbeard the importance of his producer partnership with Jeff Lynne for Full Moon Fever. “Jeff Lynne is the consummate record producer. There aren't many anymore like that. He really knows what he's talking about and he understands every aspect of the recording and what's going to go on. He also understands the tune, the feel, the performer. All of those things you gotta have in your mind. He just somehow handles it so casually.”
Tom Petty 'Full Moon Fever' /InTheStudio interview is available now to Stream at: www.inthestudio.net/redbeards-blog/tom-petty-full-moon-fever-25th-anniversary.

MELODICROCKFEST 4 - FAITH CIRCUS WITHDRAW:
It is with great regret that MelodicRockFest must break the news that Faith Circus will not be able to join the party in Chicago this October. Band founder Marc Ferrano contacted me last week to offer his sincere apologies, stating that personal circumstances beyond his control would prevent the band from playing the event.
As disappointing as this is, Faith Circus are a terrific outfit and I hope we can continue to spread the word about their great album "Turn Up The Band".
Not wishing to leave a hole in the lineup, I can immediately announce that joining us at the HOME Bar October 3 will be US hard rockers Madman's Lullaby! The guys really wanted to be a part of the show from the get go, so I'm happy to see that a bad situation can be turned into a positive.
As far as everything else MelodicRockFest 4 goes - full steam ahead folks! Tickets are going to press shortly and all VIP pass holders will be notified shortly with a couple of necessary details to be asked.
The rest of the bands lined up are in full swing to be ready to tear apart Chicago in less than 6 months' time!!
Full details and tickets at: www.melodicrockfest.com. LIMITED VIP LEFT!
COMING SHORTLY - We going to do another MelodicRockFest raffle fly someone from anywhere in the world to MRF4 this October!
Good news....The new site is done....structurally and functionally...
3 years and 4 programmers later....we're almost home. The site as it will be would not be possible if not for everyone that's put work into it, there are parts from each programmer under the hood and I couldn't be happier with the result. There is a LOT of changes to the way things have been done for the last decade and some things will take getting used to. But it's no longer a simple HTML site.. This thing is a living beast that categorizes everything and is fully social media interactive....there's options for Facebook users as well as stand-alone log-ins for those that want to avoid FB!
So all I need to do now is add as much content as I can over the next few weeks before inviting those that originally donated to the site to come in and take it for test drive. Can't wait for you all to see it and unveil this thing and get ahead of the game in brining you up to the minute news multiple times per day, not just in one update!
The ALL NEW MelodicRock.com is coming - MAY 2014!
CHICAGO READY FOR NUMBER 36:
Classic American pop/rock band Chicago have announced details and audio previews of their new studio release XXXVI. The official release details will be announced shortly. But from the band's bio:
"In the wild west of the 21st century endeavor of making music, Chicago "NOW" is a new frontier for the iconic “rock band with horns”. Putting aside an awesome accumulation of honors, awards, accomplishments, numbers and peer respect, this remarkable group of talented musicians continues to make history with a new recording process geared towards musical excellence, doing the business of music "NOW", while reckoning with the logistical realities of a world-wide touring band. Chicago, with Lee Loughnane spearheading, has customized a new recording system (dubbed "the Rig") that is flexible, powerful, portable, and always travels with the band. "NOW" was performed across a number of locations (mostly hotel rooms), including Nashville, Cleveland, Toledo, New Jersey, Spokane, and many other points across the globe.
In this new collaboration, each of the band's songwriters becomes the "supervising producer” for their compositions. Hank Linderman, musician, and long-time studio engineer for Timothy B. Schmit (Eagles), Don Henley, America, and Robert Lamm, as well as other successful artists, is the "coordinating producer." Hank catalogs the multitude of audio takes and files, bringing logistical and production musicality to a complex procedure. With much effort a private online collaboration portal was created to allow performances to be worked on, around the clock, from remote locations. Chicago has crafted band performances, in sync, with the songwriter, and is already working on their next collection of music!
Tracklisting: Now, More Will Be Revealed, America, Crazy Happy, Free At Last, Love Lives On, Something's Coming, I Know, Watching All The Colors, Nice Girl, Naked In The Garden Of Allah, Another Trippy Day.
HELIX: BASTARD OF THE BLUES:
"Bastard of the Blues" is the 13th full length Helix studio CD, not counting several live CDs and numerous compilation albums, and draws from the vast blues/rock/and metal influences that have driven both writers over the years. Written primarily with Sean Kelly, the CD is a continuation of 2008's "Vagabond Bones" and also contains two songs from the follow-up EP "Skin in the Game." It's now been six years since Kelly and Vollmer combined writing forces, and it shows. The songs are more focused and bigger sounding, the lyrics more concise and catchy. The song "Bastard of the Blues" describes Helix music to a "T"-the unholy co-mingling of blues and rock and roll to produce the bastard child heavy metal; at least the variety Helix has been kicking out for close to 40 years now.
Guesting on background vocals on the track B.O.T.B. is Cheryl Lescom, whom Brian describes as "...the best female blues singer in Canada..." In "Even Jesus (Wasn't Loved In His Hometown)" Vollmer describes how the band can play all over the world (this year they have dates in Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland & the U.S. and are already booked on 2015's Monsters Of Rock Boat Cruise with some of the biggest and brightest metal/hard rock stars of the 80s') but can't get a gig or any respect in their hometown of London, Ontario. Go figure! "Screaming at the Moon" and "Metal At Midnight" are sure to be big European hits as the metal scene continues to thrive there. "Screaming at the Moon" also features Nick Walsh of Slic Toxic (a platinum selling Canadian metal band) on back-up vocals.
The 6th track on the CD, "Hell Bound For A Heartbreak", talks of an addicted gambler, something Brian should know about, having lived many years with a bookie. "...I saw guys come to pick up their winnings at night and leave the next morning over $1,000 in the hole..." comments Vollmer. A first for the band is the ballad "When All The Love Is Gone", sang and written by long-time bass player and member of the band Daryl Gray. It has a very Gary Moore type of feel to it. The 8th track, "Axe to Grind", continues the angst with an angry Alice Cooper feel, followed by "Skin in the Game" and "The Bitch is a Bullet", both from the S.I.T.G. EP. "Skin in the Game" speaks volumes about Vollmer's commitment to staying in the music business against all odds, or as the lyrics state, "...I've got some skin in the game, I'll be staking my claim, I got my balls on the line, I've got some skin in the game..." The idea for "The Bitch Is A Bullet" came from a comment he heard a friend make who was going through a particularly nasty divorce. The last track on the CD, "Sticks & Stones" is reminiscent of early Aerosmith, and talks about those individuals who take dangerous chances thinking they are invincible and end up killing themselves or quadriplegic in a wheelchair. So far Vollmer has been able to avoid that....
Bastard Of The Blues is released via Perris Records in May.

ANGEL: 1978 LIVE INTRO FILM UNEARTHED AFTER 36-YEARS!:
It's not every day that never-before-seen Angel footage from the 1970s surfaces. Even more rare, this live film contains the only publicly-available moving images of the infamous Angel introduction which featured all five band members "magically" appearing in their own cubicle box. This is the first time in 36 years; any footage has been seen of Angel's now legendary illusions. The Super 8mm film, which includes the original concert audio, was frame by frame restored and is viewable in it's native aspect ratio in 720p here: (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmgp0ahAIoA)
It was recorded on May 10, 1978 during a stop on the band's White Hot tour in Fresno, California which also featured The Godz. Along with label mates Kiss, Angel were signed to Casablanca Records during their 1975-'80 peak years. Angel's live introduction's was previously written about in great detail in the 2009 book, And Party Every Day: The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records by Label VP Larry Harris (with Curt Gooch and Jeff Suhs) and a feature-length movie, directed by Spike Lee called Spinning Gold begins production this fall. INSIDE THE VERTIGO WITH JEFF SCOTT SOTO'S NEW SOTO RELEASE:
From Jeff Scott Soto Official Facebook earlier today - this is your first teaser from the upcoming Soto release - details to be revealed soon.
"Here you go folks, check out all the info as I don't need to repeat myself here…the slamming tune was co-written with Mike Orlando of Adrenaline Mob, who is also playing all the guitar work here! The new album is HEAVY, its a new band, a new dawn and direction for me, for us…for SOTO!"
Soto - Inside The Vertigo ~ Press Release and Bio Soto, a new band which is the culmination of one of today's premier Rock frontmen and vocalists, Jeff Scott Soto, cast with a union of hotshot young musicians to bring you a slamming blend of melody and muscle in some of the freshest power metal to surface in years present their debut album, Inside The Vertigo. Jeff explains, ''I've been in the game for a long time but my roots started more on the heavier side of the tracks, I thought it was about time I came home to visit the family and stick around for a while!''
The band is comprised of Jeff's most current solo band, who he insisted on making this musical merge with him. Jorge Salan (lead guitar), BJ (keys, guitars), David Z (bass) and Edu Cominato (drums). Soto adds ''these guys come from different parts of the world and bring their own influence to make this band very special. From the US to Europe to South America, we have an exciting mix of style and prestige that keeps us all on our toes''.
A neurotic blend of power metal, prog, groove-laden huge guitars, hooks and production, Soto is a contender in today's modern rock arena while capturing the essence of strong songwriting simultaneously.
Jeff adds, ''the past 5 or more years have spurred me a plethora of anger and frustration, I'm actually quite pissed off about a lot of things, Soto is my outlet to release some of this pent up emotion. We realize there are a lot of folks young and old who may be sharing these thoughts so this is especially for them too. We're not reinventing the wheel here, we're just creating an outlet for where our hearts are both musically and mentally…I'm just not in a 'touch your golden hair' mood right now!''
Songs like Break, The Fall, Wrath, Narcissistically Yours and Final Say are perfect vehicles of raw emotion. Songs like When I'm Older, Karma's Kiss, to the title track Inside The Vertigo and the 9+ minute epic End Of Days advocate a modern day reality/wake-up call.
Produced by Jeff Scott Soto, the album features tracks co-written with his bandmates as well as a of his famous friends/colleagues. Collaborators include guitarists Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy), Jason Bieler (Saigon Kick), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob) and Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger/TSO), all of whom perform on their penned tracks for the album. Others appearing as guests/co-writers are Casey Grillo (Kamelot), Connor Engstrom, Tony Dickinson, Leo Mancini, Hugo Mariutti and Gary Schutt.
The album was recorded during the latter months of 2013 and mixed/mastered in Boston by Soto's long time engineer and friend John Ellis. ''Everyone from John to my amazing co-writers to some of my bandmates, especially Edu who was extremely instrumental on helping me stay on course musically, get overall credit for creating this album. I oversaw it as a whole knowing the vision I wanted to capture but I truly had a lot of help from my bros that appear on this masterpiece!'' exclaims Soto.
Watch for the Soto release Inside The Vertigo to drop within the second half of 2014 followed by extensive touring and appearances throughout 2015.

CALIFORNIA BREED PREMIERES VIDEO FOR "MIDNIGHT OIL" SINGLE:
The celebrated hard rock power trio, California Breed, which consists of Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass), Jason Bonham (drums) and Andrew Watt (guitar), will premiere the official lyric video for their current single Midnight Oil on Wednesday April 9 via Classic Rock's website. Fans can now enjoy the clip here also:
The song is also available from today as an instant grat track by pre-ordering the album exclusively from iTunes worldwide via this link: smarturl.it/CaliforniaBreed. The animated lyric video was created by Nev Todoroic who spearheads the interactive media production company The Young Astronauts.
Says California Breed's guitarist, Andrew Watt - "We wanted to a lyric video that would make people want to watch this song in addition to just listen to it, one that would highlight the bombastic grooves of the track and convey the rhythm of the message. I turned to my friends, the Young Astronauts, whose previous videos have hundreds of millions of views, but they who don't work with a lot of rock bands and I thought THAT'S the magic, right there." “It's a refreshing animated video that really captures the lyrical concert and message of the Midnight Oil single,” says California Breed's vocalist and bassist, Glenn Hughes. “We didn't want to make a run-of-the-mill lyric video. The animation perfectly captures the raw energy, lyrical content and the message of what Midnight Oil is really all about... rock n roll!!”
Midnight Oil is UK's first single taken from California Breed's self-titled debut album which is released in Europe on May 16 and UK/US on May 19 on Frontiers Records. The new album was produced in Nashville, Tennessee by Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Jamey Johnson, Shooter Jennings) and features 23-year-old guitarist Andrew Watt, who was originally introduced to Glenn Hughes by Julian Lennon at a party in LA in 2013.
California Breed are planning a UK and European tour in September. Tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

KARL COCHRANE BEATING THE ODDS!:
A good news update on guitarist Karl Cochrane's condition. From his Facebook page earlier today:
"Hi Everyone, This will be the last daily update, as Karl has beat the odds, and is out of life threatening danger. From now on, it will be weekly, or if something super spectacular happens, sooner. I will leave the updates to the few visitors we are allowing, and allow them to tell their cool stories about Karl if they would like to share. I cannot tell you what your prayers, well wishes, positive reinforcements, and overall concern have meant to his friends, family, and especially his mother and father. Keep the comments and Facebook private messages coming. I read them to Karl every time I see him (when he's not grabbing the phone from my hand trying to do it himself). I don't respond to them all, but believe me, they are read.
The rehabilitation process has begun for Karl, and he now needs time, patience, and most importantly, the privacy to work through this with the help of his family and a select group of close friends. Our one and only concern is getting Karl healthy and mobile, and allowing him to do this in peace and privacy. So, we are restricting visitors to family, and a few close friends, until Karl is able and willing to tell us his wishes. If you have any questions, concerns, or requests, please forward them to me, Chris Mitchell (I don't have a FB account) at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will respond to you as soon as possible. Keep the faith!"
