TEN OLD STORIES FINDS WAY TO CD: Jef Scott's 'Ten Stories' is a collection of ten songs in a rich singer-songwriter AOR vein. Produced by Bill Pfordresher (Ambrosia) this album is now, finally, afforded a CD release and to be re-discovered nearly thirty years on from its appearance on vinyl back in 1986. Jef Scott's musical education began in the bars and clubs of San Diego during the late 70s before he moved to Los Angeles in 1979 where he joined Hard Rock band Geisha which also featured former Detective and Yes keyboard player Tony Kaye in the line-up. With Kaye by this time having rejoined Yes, Scott's big break came in 1984, when he was signed as a solo artist by Epic Records. The fruits of that relationship finally emerged two years later as the aptly titled 'Ten Stories' in 1986.
Scott handled the majority of the instrumentation on the record, with only synth player Jeff Forehan and drummers Jay Schellen and Bryan Hitt (the latter then with Life By Night, now in REO Speedwagon) noted as the other contributing musicians in the album's credits. Jef Scott's 'Ten Stories' now will be released for the first time on vinyl and was remastered by MSM Studios in Munich, Germany.

I'm also told that the treatments might not take effect for months after I'm done. So I asked, what if there's more cancer in me. They mentioned hormone shots which I will absolutely NOT DO!!!. IT IS NOT AN OPTION!! Even worse side effects than I'm already having. I've decided that whatever the BIG MAN upstairs has planned for me is the way it's goin' down!! I will just continue to live my life and use the gift that God has given me until I can't physically ( or mentally ) LOL, play anymore. I'm SURE the mentally will come first!!! OH WELL, Off for my walk!!!!! Have a great day my friends!!"
CLASSIC CANADIAN ARTISTS GET THE DIGITAL TREATMENT AS WARNER MUSIC CANADA OPENS THE VAULTS: Warner Music Canada opens its vaults today with the first of a series of digital releases from classic Canadian artists ranging from Honeymoon Suite to Streetheart to Harem Scarem. The label has gone back to the original master tapes of albums that have not been in circulation in over a decade in order to make them available through all Digital Service Providers. REUBEN ARCHER TO RELEASE DEBUT SOLO ALBUM AUGUST 19, TOXIC ARROW RECORDS: Reuben Archer, vocalist with hard rockers Stampede and former vocalist of Lautrec, Wild Horses and Lionheart, is set to release his debut solo album 'Personal Sin' this summer, featuring guest appearances from members of Y&T, Thunder, Whitesnake, Magnum, UFO, Status Quo, Saxon, MSG and more.
Personal Sin features 13 tracks produced by Reuben and Rob Wolverson and mastered by Ade Emsley (Iron Maiden, Steve Harris). Set for an August 19 release, it will signal the debut release on the newly launched Toxic Arrow Records, a joint venture between Reuben Archer and Archer Williams Management distributed via Cargo Records.
The album features guest appearances from Dave Meniketti (Y&T), John 'Rhino' Edwards (Status Quo), Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Gary Moore, Snakecharmer), Harry James (Magnum, Thunder, Snakecharmer), Luke Morley (The Union, Thunder), Paul Quinn (Saxon), Paul Raymond (UFO, PRP), Derek Holt (Climax Blues Band), Rocky Newton (Lionheart, MSG), Kevin Riddles (Angel Witch, Tytan) and more.
The album will be preceded by the release of double A-side digital single 'Play My Rock 'N' Roll' / 'Lately' ft. Harry James and Kevin Riddles on July 22.
Reuben, who reformed melodic hard rockers and NWOBHM stalwarts Stampede in 2009 and is currently fronting the live line up of the Paul Raymond Project, took the decision to team up with young hot-shot Stampede guitarist and multi-talented music virtuoso Rob Wolverson to make a solo record last year after celebrating a landmark birthday. “I had some ideas and material knocking around which I'd wanted to explore for ages, which involved bigger production and more instrumentation than I've usually had with my other bands. I wanted a big melodic sound, and around the time of my 70th celebrations last year I thought that there was no time like the present to make it happen, especially since developing a great songwriting partnership with Rob”, explains Reuben. “The idea was always to invite fellow musicians to participate on the thirteen tracks, and I have been honoured to have so many eminent musician friends that I've made over the years who have lent their valuable talent and time to achieve the end result. Together with a core of great musician friends from around the Midlands, the project began to grow.”
On the subject of the title 'Personal Sin', Reuben comments: “Once you're involved with rock 'n' roll it never leaves you; even in my case with a lengthy sabbatical I am still as passionate about it as I was back in '74 when I started. Rock 'n' roll gave me excitement pleasure and heartache too. Good times, bad times and at times personal grief. I know for a fact it's never going to leave me; it is an integral part of my life.”

HOOBASTANK TO ROCK SHILLONG FOR TNT MAGAZINE'S 6TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:
Alternative rock band Hoobastank is to perform in Shillong to mark the 6th anniversary celebration of city-based magazine TNT-The Northeast Today, which primarily covers current affairs, politics, lifestyle and music. The magazine was founded by the scion of the Tripura royal family, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Burman in 2007. The American alternative rockers will be seen playing at the 5th Field, Polo Ground in the city on the 29th of June. The band, best known for its hit single "The Reason" which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts 2004 and No. 1 on the US and World Modern Rock charts, will be on their maiden Indian visit with their current line-up consisting of vocalist Doug Robb, guitarist Dan Estrin, drummer Chris Hesse and bassist Josh Moreau. The band is reaching India on June 27.
Announcing the news via their social networking pages, Event Head, Sumita Jana has notified that the tickets are being priced at 500 INR. Editor-in-chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya says, "We have always maintained that music and Rock and Roll remains a strong aspect in our magazine and day to day lives, hence, this is the best way to celebrate our 6th anniversary." He further added that certain proceeds of the show will go to the Maichang School project for the underprivileged.
Tickets to the show will be available at select outlets in the entire North-eastern region of India. Apart from that, free tickets can also be won every day by answering to the daily questions posted on the magazine's Facebook page. Tickets will also be available at select Aircel outlets all over the region.

JOHN WAITE REVEALS NEW LIVE RELEASE: John Waite has launched his new live album Live: All Access via iTunes and on CD shortly from his website: www.johnwaitethesinger.com. It is also available from all John Waite live shows.
The press release states: "It's a sparkling collection of live recordings of songs from the Rough and Tumble album, from the solo albums Ignition, No Brakes and a song from the Babys era like Head First. John Waite's vocals are crystal clear and still hitting every high note, and the production is outstanding. The No Brakes band with Keri Kelli on Guitars, and Tim Hogan on bass, and Rhondo on drums, deliver their masterpiece."
In John's words: "It was a great time. Kerri had been working his way into the songs. The energy was worth recording. I took a shot at capturing the energy. We were having a blast and it shows in the performance. I think it was a golden time. It cost a small fortune to record and some of the shows were just so good it was worth going after. The band has come a long way and I would like to continue to put something out every 8 months. It's a great record..... Raw, no overdubs or bullshit. It's the truth!!!"
Unfortunately the album is comprised of a mere 8 tracks (34 minutes), which is less than half the live set John is currently playing. There's no word on why this decision was made.

The Swedish melodic metal band Saffire have uploaded a live bootleg video for "Paralyzed" on YouTube. The video was recorded at the bands release party at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 1st.

Saffire are inspired by the 70's and 80's rock and metal bands like Rainbow, Dio, Whitesnake, Van Halen and Black Sabbath. The sound of Saffire can be described as a mix of those bands with a progressive twist, something that makes them stand out in the scene. The debut album from Saffire entitled "From Ashes To Fire" was released in Europe and North America on May 17th through Inner Wound Recordings.
"From Ashes To Fire" was mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom & Henrik Udd at Studio Fredman [At The Gates, In Flames, Hammerfall] and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios [Symphony X, Opeth, Kreator]. DANISH SYMPHONIC PROG ROCK/METAL BAND MYTHERY READY THEIR DEBUT ALBUM:
The Danish symphonic prog rock/metal band Mythery are ready with their debut album, which will be released August 12th via Mighty Music/Target. In the past two years, mastermind Nikolaj Holger has worked intensively on writing “The Awakening of the Beast” – a grandiose symphonic masterpiece, meant to contribute with a fresh musical perspective to the genres of progressive rock and heavy metal! Mythery can hardly be labelled as a ”typical metal band”, as the band members have very different musical backgrounds. Drummer, composer and lyricist Nikolaj Holger had by the end of 2010 recruited a bunch of very talented musicians to take part in what would become a very ambitious musical project. Nikolaj Holger met Laurits Emanuel (vocals), Simon Rabenhřj (guitars), Tobias Dall (bass) and Mikkel Rosenbeck (keyboards) while studying at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, and violinist Michala Hřj was added to the line-up in late 2010. The vision was to create a distinctive, trademark sound that could be traced back to the roots of symphonic and melodic metal and, at the same time, push the boundaries of these genres. The result of their collaboration - “The Awakening of the Beast” - draws inspiration from the progressive and melodic elements of Dream Theater and the symphonic elements of Nightwish.
Tobias Dall and Mikkel Rosenbeck are primarily jazz musicians, Michala Hřj has a successful career as a classical musician behind her and vocalist Laurits Emanuel's voice brings a touch of indie rock to the music. None the less, each member, and their individual qualities, contributes to the characteristic sound of Mythery and the bands musical vision is undeniable.

Work on MelodicRock Fest 3 has been travelling along extremely well, with flights now booked for several of the bands and set lists and rehearsals already underway with some of the guys.
Prepare for the Brett Walker Band to kick your asses and just wait until you witness the 90 minute set planned by Mecca (with special guests Jimi Jamison and Fergie Frederiksen). House Of Lords will have a special guest with them on stage and someone is planning to join Eric Martin for a song or two on the night too. Lots of little things coming together for those attending! Tickets are currently available for just $55 (Friday) and $65 (for each day, Saturday & Sunday) via www.melodicrockfest.com and www.homebarchicago.com.

FERGIE FREDERIKSEN ENJOYS ANY GIVEN MOMENT: HIS NEW SOLO ALBUM OUT IN AUGUST: Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Fergie Frederiksen new solo album Any Given Moment on August 23 in Europe and August 27 in North America.
The excellent reviews surrounding the release of his latest album Happiness Is The Road in 2011 (with UK's leading AOR magazine Fireworks calling it “Quite stunning!”) rebuilt Fergie's trust in himself and therefore pretty soon another new album was in the works.
This time, Fergie collaborated with Italian producer Alessandro Del Vecchio and with the help of his songwriting, along with contributions from other world class musicians as Bruce Gaitsch (Richard Marx) and Robert Sall (Work of Art, W.E.T.) on guitars among others, Fergie put his mark on another true Melodic Rock gem of an album! “This CD was a pleasure to record. Ale and his talents as an engineer and producer shine” says Fergie. “It is always great when you make "life long friends" doing what we love to do. He's become a dear friend and a great artist. I look forward to working with him again”.
Some special surprises are also included such as the superb duet with Issa on “Not Alone” and a brand new version of Toto's classic song “Angel Don't Cry” originally included on the “Isolation” album. In Fergie's words, the new album title is particularly important because in life “You never know what will happen. But if you have love, faith, family and friends it always makes the trials and struggles in life more doable. Thank God I am blessed with all that and more”.
This new album really rocks though and songs like “The Price For Loving You” and the first single “Last Battle of My War” are there to show the world that Fergie's vocal abilities are still amazing and second to none “The songs on this album are truly all awesome. I had a chance to stretch and let it fly. “Not Alone”, which I sang a duet with Issa, is pretty special. Our voices blend together and I was so happy she agreed to do it. PO Nilsson really wrote a killer song. Then again there are many more I feel strongly about. Hope you all like them.”
A very special twist during the recording process… “was the trip to visit Frontiers Records in Naples” recalls Fergie. “What fantastic hosts they are. And the food was to die for. I also learned more about Naples in one day than I ever thought possible. What a great day meeting everyone at Frontiers and spending the day in their beautiful and historical city. Blew my mind. All in all it was a great experience and I believe Ale captured my best. Thank you Serafino and Mario for hooking me up with Ale. Great fun and I hope everyone likes the new CD”. Dennis “Fergie” Frederiksen is mostly known for being the former vocalist of Toto (on the “Isolation” album, released in 1984), he has been involved in a lot of other outstanding musical projects too. Trillion, LeRoux, Frederiksen/Philips, Mecca, Frederiksen/Denander and David London (solo album, under pseudonym) are simply a few worthy of mention. In 1999 he debuted as a solo artist with “Equilibrium”, an album which garnered great reviews in Europe and Japan and since then he has been offering quality Melodic Rock music to his legion of fans.

Also released July 17 is Farraday - Shade Of Love / Farraday is a new melodic rock project which was born in Athens, Greece in January 2012. The masterminds behind Farraday are Roy Da Vis, who is the composer, singer, guitarist & keyboard player and Stathis Spiliotopoulos, who is the producer of the project and also plays drums, bass and also supports with backing vocals. Roy Da Vis started playing at the age of 16 and performed with local bands like Mirror Lies, Heaven'Spirits and with a Hard Rock/AOR band called Bad Medicine, where Stathis Spiliotopoulos also was the man behind the desk of their sound. Bad Medicine self-released an EP called “Breakin' Down” including the two songs “Breakin Down” and “Shade Of Love” but it never came out as an official release.
After many years of music collaborations with bands, projects & live performances, Roy & Stathis are trying to deliver their passion for Melodic Rock music and now are making their dreams come true! VIVIAN CAMPBEL AND STEVE PERRY BOTH DEALING WITH HEALTH PROBLEMS:
Two very important updates from yesterday that I neglected to post, but will now. I would like to extended my personal best wishes to both Vivian Campbell and to Steve Perry and I'm sure all readers of MelodicRock.com feel the same. A speedy recovery to both!

Guitarist intends to perform with both Dio and Def Leppard, despite undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has been diagnosed with cancer. Nevertheless, he still plans to tour with the band this summer, even though he will be receiving treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. "If you're going to have a cancer, Hodgie's is the one to have," the 50-year-old guitarist joked in a statement. "[It] has an over-80% cure rate." Campbell is already one-third of the way through a six-month chemotherapy scheme and said he is "feeling rather spiffy, all things considered".
Luckily for Campbell, his doctors found the cancer early. A persistent cough sent an "alarm call", leading to x-rays and CT scans. "[These] revealed that enlarged lymph nodes were doing wrestling manoeuvres on my windpipe," Campbell said. "I underwent a surgical biopsy on 11 March, the first day of Leppard rehearsals for our Viva Las Vegas shows. Obviously, I didn't make it to rehearsal that day, but it's OK; I know the songs by now."
Although chemotherapy means Campbell has lost his hair – he refers to it as his "new, aerodynamic hairstyle" – the guitarist plans to join his bandmates when they launch their tour on 21 June. He will also be performing with the original members of Dio for four shows in August. A member of Def Leppard since 1992 – when he was drafted in to replace Steve Clark, who died the previous year – Campbell was Dio's founding guitarist, as well as having played with Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and Riverdogs.
Steve Perry has posted a very personal update to his little place on the Internet at: fanasylum.com/steveperry. It seems the singer has had his own brush with cancer, as well as some true heartbreak in his personal life. I thank Steve for being so open to fans with his words. The full post reads:
"June 6, 2013 As I said in my last birthday message January 2013, "There's so much more I'd like to share with you but that will have to come at another time"........ Well, I guess the time is now!.......In May of 2011, I was with Patty Jenkins in an editing room as she was putting the final editing touches on what was to be the closing segment of a Lifetime Channel breast cancer special called "Five." As the opening scenes camera panned across an outside hospital patio, a narrator's voice commented on their lives and their types of cancer. The camera came across this girl sitting there laughing….. I saw her smile. When the scene was over I said to Patty, "Can you roll to the top of that opening scene for me?" Patty asked, "Is something wrong?" I said, "No. I want to see something." As the camera again crossed Kellie's smile I asked her to freeze right there.……. I asked Patty who that was. She said, "That's Kellie Nash, a PHD Psychologist who was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a double mastectomy and she's doing a cameo appearance." I asked if Patty had her email, She said, "Yes" but looked at me strange because she knows I don't do that. I asked if she would send Kellie an email that your friend Steve would love to take her to coffee or lunch sometime.
Patty agreed to do so but said, "Before I do that I think there's something I should tell you first. After a 3 year battle she was in remission for 8 months then it came back in her lungs and bones and now she's Stage 4 fighting for her life." I was frozen……. I didn't know what to do…….. I had lost my mom, dad, grandparents that raised me and I was an only child so my first thought was to maybe not send the email; then my heart said, Maybe we could be friends or maybe she could be my shrink. So I said, "Please send it." Well Kellie returned an email to me via Patty and we talked on the phone for the first time 2 years ago this May. It was so great to hear her voice. It felt like I knew her all along. She said that her girlfriends had bought her a ticket to Mexico for her birthday and when she got back we'd grab a bite. I was soooo excited..... I was a little boy who finally found his girl. I waited and 2 weeks later we went to our first dinner ....... Well we started at 6pm and the next thing I know she said "Oh My God! What time is it?" I said, "11:30." She said, "I have patients starting at 8 tomorrow" ....... So we left. I never felt like this before....... I had finally found her. She's real and she's right in front of me. We started seeing each other and Yes, we both knew that we were meant to be together.
My life was forever changed in ways I will explain at another time but it was all because of my Kellie. She continued chemo from May into December when headaches started and we discovered the cancer had gone to her brain. She started brain radiation and the chemo continued also. I've never seen courage like this before. One night as we were talking she told me she just couldn't do it anymore and would I be angry If she stopped everything. I was scared for what could happen but I told her that never, to my very last breath would I ever be angry with her and that I loved her and that her choices were torture at best. She stopped everything. January and February were rough on her then one day she said she wanted to try one last treatment that was not chemo but it was in New York. I said, "Let's move to New York"....... so we lived there for 9 months and the drug kept her alive with a quality of life. We had the most Magical summer of our lives together. She was doing really well till August. She said, "Something's wrong." We later found that her cancer was returning like wild fire. Kellie tried chemo in New York for 2 months but it was useless.
We came back to California in November and I lost my precious Kellie December 14th 2012. She was so strong, so courageous and we really loved each other so very much. I've been trying to grieve and not run from this loss so for the last 5 months that's what I've been doing along with recalling everything being in Love with Kellie taught me. She helped me in so many ways. I Love and miss her terribly. Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer. I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required. On Sunday I was a bit depressed because Kellie's birthday was coming up so I went for a drive and ran into Martha Quinn at a street fair. It was so great to see her and in a few short moments I told her most of this story.
She asked if I'd take a picture with her and I said, "If you don't mind my face scar." She said, "Not at all." I joked about me and Pirates of the Caribbean and we both laughed. It was so great seeing Martha........ I was a bit emotionally lost that day and seeing Martha got me grounded again. Thanks Martha!!

One of the UK's top melodic rock bands will release their new album Siren through AOR Heaven on July 19. Since 1998 melodic rock artist Newman have been producing consistently high quality albums filled with hook laden songs and thought provoking lyrics. Now, after a break of 2 years, following a studio upgrade and relocation, Newman return with their 10th Studio album and once again the collaboration with AOR Heaven continues.
Siren is a rock album through and through, taking influences from the whole of Newman's career to date. Powerful song writing backed by a powerful production. Driving guitars feature with the strength of hooks and chorus's that this artist is renowned for. This time around, as with the last few studio albums, Steve is joined by the highly talented session drummer Rob McEwen, but has also brought in a few familiar guests to enhance the sound and songwriting process. From the Newman live band, guitarist Shaun Bessant guests on "When It Comes To Love" and guitarist Robert Säll (Work Of Art, W.E.T.) guests on "Feel Her Again". In the songwriting department, Steve has joined forces with Pete Newdeck (Eden's Curse, Tainted Nation) for the songs "Some Kind Of Wonderful" and "Waiting For The Day". Steve's long time friend, who also appeared on 1999's "One Step Closer" album, Nick Workman (Vega, Kick) co-writes on the uplifting "When It Comes To Love". Both Pete and Nick also contribute backing vocals.

Even if music fans on the other side of the Atlantic may beg to differ: the best and most authentic rock bands still come from the UK. HEAVEN & EARTH RELEASE ELECTRIC LIVE PERFORMANCE OF "HOUSE OF BLUES" FROM THEIR FONDA SHOWCASE ON APRIL 10: Heaven & Earth premiered a live performance of their song House of Blues on Aol's Noisecreep.com yesterday, June 6. House of Blues features some blistering guitar work by Stuart Smith, but gets its bluesy rock vibe from the powerhouse vocal delivery of front man Joe Retta and a wicked keyboard solo from Ed Roth midway into the performance. Add in some solid low-end work from drummer Richie Onori and bassist Chuck Wright and “House of Blues” comes off as a timeless bluesy rocker that must be heard by all rock purists and classic rock fans.
